If you are just going to catch a taxi in BKK, just go outside the arrival hall, and flag down a METERED TAXI and make sure the driver turns on the meter! Its a good idea to have the directions to your hotel written down in Thai, as they do on the back of my hotels business card.

Please try them and post your results, the price seems a bit high!

 

Most of the seasoned members will go upstairs to the departure floor and catch a taxi when they drop off a passenger. I found that works well, just walk past all the touts trying to sell you 1800 to 2500 rides, and pay 1200 to 1400 to go to pattaya.
