Advice on starting a business in Pattaya

agreed.. life & business is soooo much easier if you have a thai involved who you THINK you can trust. it opens many doors that you cannot do alone. without it expect to pay more for everything and have every man and his dog trying to rob you blind -
i've statyed in one of the residence garden 2 bed suites ... they are fantastic and very large. however i'd say for 2 single guys you are better off with 2 one bed suites or you may get under each others feet a little. unless of course you paln to swap tg's hafl way thru the night i'll try and explain the layout of the 2 bed suite i was in . thru the front door and you cna see a huge living area in front of you with 2 large sofa's about 6ft long. to the right there is a very well equiped kitchen area. standing inside the room to your left there is 1 door, the 1st bedroom, this has ensuite bathrrom. large room equiped with its own tv. plenty of storage. to you right the other side of the livign room there are 2 doors facing each other. one is bedroom 2, the other is the 2nd bathroom. both equiped to the normal high standard the residence garden offers. overall its big. much larger than a normal 2 bed condo in fact.

Advice on starting a business in Pattaya

ahh .. i can smell the negative advice from here so i'll skip the crap about it won't work, it won't make money, you'll lose it all etc etc you can own a bar , or guesthouse, or any buisness you want. i don't know why people say you cannot. the negative brigade say the same about houses , that you cannot own your own house here ! you cannot though work in that business if the role is a job a thai person can do. which means in a guesthouse or bar your role is to show your thai staff what to do. not do it yourself. if you are caught serving drinks, taking money, giving someone a key to a room or in fact pretty much anything your in trouble. even technicly mixing with the punters in a role of owner is a breach. on saying all that though everywehre you go you will see farangs who are doing things they should not do. so just be aware of the rules. and what you should not be caught doing. i think for every 4 or 5 thai staff you have on payroll you can get 1 farang work permit. however catch 22 agian the work permit has to be for a job a thai cannot do and is approved for farangs. so if you like. you will be a hospitaly consultant in your own bar/guesthouse. you do not have to put it all in a thai partners name. just see a good accoutant here, most bm's who really live here will be able to recomend one. smart shareholding is all that is needed. the only good advise is donlt invest more than you afford to lose. ensure you have plenty of money as backup as you will need it. don't set a silly target that the 3 of you will draw 1000's of pounds from the place profit each month. you 1st target is should be just to try and make it pays its own upkeep without drawing a penny. then if you are lucky it may make enough to buy your food. the drawback you have is anything you do make is a 3 way split it seems. most small places only make ends meet. and at best pay for food and drink for the owner. don't forget either that if your renting then you have that lovely thing every 3 years or so called key money which will on average double your monthly rent if you include it in your budget. if it all still sounds financialy viable then your a brave man. you have not said the size of the venture your planning, normally here it seems you have to gamble a lot to make a little. you could always buy a bar guesthosue on soi 6 theres one for sale on my books at 2 million baht to take over the lease + monthly rent .. lol ,, at least then your not far from the action -
looking to buy some 2nd hand scuba diving gear. bcd (xl), tank, regs, mask etc etc would love to have new but monies dicate otherwise lol. so have to start my own gear collection somewhere.

toyota vios, 6 month old anyone know the cost of NGV conversion ? and where to get it done (pattaya)
-
i have a new vios G on hp from toyota, the one on the right on the way out of town. got loads of extras (costs me 10,600 baht per month) servicing. 5k & 10k were 100% free then they said serviceing is free for life, pay only for parts. service is every 5k km's, but they do have an option for larger gaps if you use better oil, but i worked it out ot be chaeper to do it every 5k anyway. cost so far is about 500 baht per time .. oil only i think. they change filters every 15,000kn , then its costs about 900baht. but 100% sure its free labour for at aleast 5 years , as the tg's sister has a 2nd hand 4 year old vios and she still get free labour

i'd be interested to know myself the differneces between the differrent brands here. i started my newborn sprog (half farang) off just over a month ago on the enfalac a++. but decided that the 300 baht stuff looked jsut as good.. however i to would prefer sma as i know its good. i'll jot all the brandnames down later in the week and post them on here for you . might be able to google them all . i though it was white cap for hungry babies and yellow was normal .. is'nt blue the lactose free one ? or is it yellow is stage 1 and while is follow on .. lol .. so many different ones ! if anyone reading this does now which thai brand is for newborn hungry babies then please post us some info !!
-
hi there. you will not get SMA here, well i've not seen it and i have looked. there are other brands some made by the same company , wyeht i think make sma ? there is lots of choice though here and they are good milks. best i can see is enfalac a++ at around 600 baht for a big tin or there are other brands that go down as low as 230 baht for a large tin, i've checked the vitamins etd in all these and they are as good as sma. the biggest problem is many thai's do not read the desructions on the tin and jsut guess at how much powder/water to mix and then baby loses weight. also sma do yellow cap and white cap for hugrier babies. i've not seen any eqivlaent of the white here. all the tesco's and big c's have HUGE selections of powder, like a whole isle !! so in short. £10 for a large tin of enfalac a++ is your best option if you want to go pricey. but i'm not sure its worth the extra. you'd be better off bringin vitamin drops with you and adding to the powder they can get . google - SMA, by Wyeth, is S-26 in Thailand There is no store in Thailand as far as I know that have imported infant formula, and not likely to be one, because it is a heavily regulated product and would have to go through various FDA rules and regulations before it could be imported into the country. I doubt any company would go through all the hassle to bring in a product with such a small customer base.

Hi all .. i know there is already a medical thread just below this but i think this is worth a seperate thread. I have a lady coming out in a about 30 mins (broker) she has got me at age 42 a medical insurance package with a reputable company covers 6400 per day in patient , double for ICU. all of the benefits seem higher than that on offer with either AXA or expats(thaivisa) . for there equivlaent priced polices . the price they have give me is 20,500 baht per year, the clincher being it can be paid quarterly or bi-annualy. so only 5k baht per quarter for me !. they do direct payament with all the main hospitals she says eg. bkk-pattaya , and you get a flashy plastic card to wave at them lol i'm going to compare polices, benefits etc in depth when she gets here and will scan and post the forms for all to see. sounds to good to be true so i'm hoping. oh also when i saw the forms she had the other day i noticed it said on the top max age 90. as i know some ppl have had problems with hefty prices in old age. i also noticed that most companies are about 8000 more for a young child. these ones were 300 baht more ! 20,800 for a 0-5 yr old i think.

bllod pressure i have no idea .. choleseterol simvastin are cheap though .. about 100baht for a box of 24 i think (generic brand)
-
don't expats already do one ?
-
after 65 if you are already covered most plans will continue after 65. the thaivisa/expats group cover is for under 60's (or under 65's) then they will put you on indivdual cover instead of group. like everyhting though it will cost more and they quote on case by case i think

$1500, budget on 30b/$ . not on 33. you never know which way it goes so budget on the low rate. thats 45k baht per month. take away. rent 6k, i'll assume you have to pay the electric etc on top ubc tv or sophon cable, you may want this as you'll be in the room a while ! 2k if ubc. water, 600baht electric 2k (assume in room a lot with aircon going) outings 9 times/month 9k total if you drink cheaply (not inc fun) 10k for a live in is about right. but remember this will increase your outgoings on food etc. thats 29600 baht before you eat, so forget UBC you need sophon cable, but your still going to have less than 600 baht per day to live after all your expences are gone. i would suggest buying a cheap motorbike if you like bikes ? theres an acution every few months of ex-finance ones. say 10k, will save on taxi's in the long run and give you something to do riding around also for the 1st few months you are going to be contending with the inner tourist in yourself that wants to party, explore and enjoy yourself. so budget a lot of extra money for those months. overall . you can do it. the key thing is sex drive then you will be ok . soem of the girls will help you save money. some will help you spend it. that is key to your plan which type you find. also you may want to consider living on the darkside. you will not get a place for 6k, but being further away from town may help your budget in the long run. as long as you make sure you have a return ticket then you have nothing to lose. go for itm and keep us all updated on the costs.

there seem to be 3 main ones bupa, thai insurance via expats club or thaivisa, the group model, thai insurance independant cover for over 60's, and Axa a lot depends on your age and budget. i recently had a meeting with an insurance advisor on this and the best budget cover was with AXA. to get reasonable cover i had to go for Axa's smartcare exec+ policy on the +4 or +5 level. premiums were. (i was going to type them in , but i'll try attachign the cover sheets, i'll leave them big or they will be unreadable) i was told this cover give a level the same as expats/thaivisa insurance , at the same sort of price but withthout so many restictions. also there claim limit was worked out differently so worked out better

i stayed 1 night in the whitehouse about a year ago, i;d told them i would be there for 3 weeks and had waht they said was the best availalbe room. view from the balcony was a brick wall next door the management seemed great on arrival, farang manager welcomed me and said any problems he was there to help . my 1st night i took 2 ladies back. went upto the room and just after the action had begun the phone rang reception saying "excuse me mr, we see you take 2 ladies to room, we add 1000 baht to you bill, ok ?" ummm, no i say , i see manager in the morning i tell them. well the morning came and i tottled down , had a word with the boss who now was no longer helpfull, they just pointed at a peice of paper on the front counter which was either covered by a guestbook when i arrived or had been put there just for me. hotel rules he says .. i point out i did not know, and that i was there for 2 week at full price with no dicsount and it would not hurt them to wave the rule.. no way on earth .. he was not moving on there rule.. so i tell them i will bring 2 lady many time, it not right.. make room very expensive. not interested . si i then say that if they stick to the rule i will check out. this is low season. and that rooms are a plenty without rules like this. still no way .. i packed my bag, paid the bin, and will never go back the room itself was nice. had a kitchen area, but no utensils, plates or cuttlery at all so it was useless the lounge part of the room was compact but tastefully decorated. and the bathroom was nice as well . so if you want a room with a kitchen that you cannot use. a balcony that looks at a wall and is dark. and manangement that deserve a jobsworth award then stay there. otherwise as i keep saying to anyone who asks me . residence garden is the best. thye will move heavan and earth to please there. and i would really call that place my 2nd home

more news on the pastry Iran struck back against Denmark this week with a low blow to that nation’s most sacred symbol, the pastry known around the world as “the Danish Pasty.” In retaliation for caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in a Danish newspaper, the Iranian Confectioners’ Union has ordered that the popular pastrys be renamed “roses of the Prophet Muhammad.” As expected, the insult has incited chaos and instability across Denmark. Danes have taken to the streets in riotous fashion, burning Iranian flags and threatening to attack the Iranian Embassy. A group of Persian immigrants sustained minor injuries after walking into a popular bakery in Copenhagen and ordering three roses of Muhammad. The bakery’s employees reportedly pelted them with Pastrys. Danish Prime Minister Anders Rasmussen has expressed outrage at the insult to his country’s national pride, threatening consequences to all who disrespect the sanctity of Denmark’s blessed pastry. When asked if more cartoons would be published as a retaliatory act, he replied, “All options are on the table.” Denmark’s supreme leader, Queen Margrethe II, angrily demanded a new name for Persian rugs as an initial counterstrike. After considering such names as “Nordic quilt” and “Viking mat,” the queen made a final decision. From now on, Danes will refer to the popular Oriental rug as the “sheath of Scandinavia.” U.S. officials have thus far remained silent on the situation, possibly waiting to see if it escalates before issuing an official response. Despite hard questioning, White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan refused to discuss the issue at Thursday’s press conference. So the truth is revealed. These pastrys that are infiltrating our forums are in fact Danish & Iranian spys ! i call upon the prophet MM to rename them both to something non offensive. blessed is the pastry and may a shower of genital warts fall upon all those who defile his name . .. ok, so i'm bored .. the smoking in bars thread went quite . so got to find soemthing else to do -

i was thinking of him earlier today .. lol i'm meant to be a having a meeting with him soon about some website work .. lol he stayed in a m8's apartment for a while. and the seem really good freinds now. funny how i don't trust my freind as much anymore. i wonder what he is really like .. every weirdo of late that seems to get arrested in there country of origin for perverted sex crimes always seems to have a history of having been to patts in the past ROFL .. perhaps we should start collecting autographs of everyone we meet for notariatrys sake. ready for when they hit the press.
