    Jeez from a 380 to a 737?  Like booking a limo and getting a Kia Soul.  🤣

That's wild.I would have to think about cancelling and booking another carrier. My current flight, and all I want to ever do, is my 45 minute to BKK. They installed Business class seating at the front. I was a pretty spoiled guy when I flew but I'm not seeing 5,500 baht when  economy is 2550 for 45 min.

Yeah I thought he meant the carriers.  Everyone I know who has been on one likes them.

Yea the carriers found despite the increased loads the A380 is not cost effective. I missed the era of Nonstop Thai 17 hour JFK-Bkk. that would have been sweet.I don't fly anymore. My family can visit me here though I miss the freedom of Arizona and throwing dice in Vegas. I wish Thailand had a General Aviation sector, I'd buy a cheap plane and commute to Pattaya on my own. I thought about riding the CBR to Bangkok but had to face my 70 y/o body is quite different than my 30 y/o body.

Do you get to exit the plane in that 2 hour layover?  A shower would be nice.

This was a real plus on the 24+ hour flight to BKK, shower in Narita and hit the ground running on Sukhumvit. Last trip I was scheduled on the A380 with a shower on board but they switched to the 777. No one wants to fly the 380 anymore but I have seen a few at the airport.

I'm sitting at BKK now after another safe ride with one of Nam's drivers. Excellent service. She arrived about 30 minutes early, which I appreciate as I'd rather have the driver wait for me than me wondering if they're going to show if they try to show up exactly on time. Got my first ride ever in an EV too. Her car was a BYD model.

Echo this for the newer guys arriving. Transportation should be the least concern but for guys back home with jobs/family and an expensive 14-24 hour no cancel flight it becomes the most. I also appreciate the early arrival. When Nams was first suggested by a BM, Force?, It was excellent and I thought "Well this will go to shit in 6 months" but she has stayed consistent all these years.   For the CC Bells Bus is also a great option . But now a curmudgeon  in my 70's with arthritis my bus days are over.

  5. At Phuket checkin I was behind a young couple who I could tell had not flown AA. They had a trolley full of luggage, I thought clueless chumps. But I was clueless chump because the agent didn't let me and my small handbag jump ahead while the husband scrambled to the Atm.  I was pretty good at evaluating lines, back when we were still doing those white departure cards and I saw a group not having them, Nope get in the longer line where people understand what to do.

  6. In the early days of flying Air Asia I spent more time unchecking boxes “for your Convenience” than booking a flight .  No I don’t want extra baggage, no I don’t want insurance, no I don’t care about my seat on a 2 hour flight, no I don’t want your shitty 300 baht meal.

Pic from yesterday's hash run. The area is west of Rugby School Thailand. Large swaths of brush have been intentionally burned off throughout the area. No idea why the Thai do this as the areas they burned were not cropland. The area to the right in the pic below is one such area that had been set alight.

I have been curious about this also. Even up here the are small burns nothing to do with farming or lot clearing.

  8. Great pictures thanks , I helped a friend replace the head gasket on an old Mercedes sedan in your post. He got the car for free since the owner couldn’t afford the dealership repair cost, maybe north of 2k usd back in the 70’s.   We did job for less than 100usd including the socket set.

  9. Despite being a crusty curmudgeon I also enjoyed the holiday. Went to the relative safety of the Corner Bar Soi 6   traveled up the dry 6/1 without a motorcycle, phone or wallet. An added plus was the wet t shirts and panties on 6.  Upcountry past couple years we put a tent and an inflatable pool with appropriate WMD on the road. The neighborhood kids and nieces and nephews come by and I'll make pizzas and grill hamburgers. Reminds me to lay in a supply of St. Teresa rum for the festivities.

  10. All good responses but i believe  tallguy hit it.  Dont worry about semantics.  Just stop at Jomtien.  Call it a visa ,extension, exempt whatever. Don't fuck with the Thais and their rules with immigration. Sometimes they smile and say Mai bpen Rai,sometimes they don't.

I would definitely take a trip to immigration to sort this out, I doubt the agents will have any experience of this situation.

  11. in fairness the wire does appear insulated.  When building the house upcountry I wanted to see the electrical work, insulation, conduits, breakers and connections before they were concealed behind the wall. Joking aside, a few years back a young Japanese fellow died simply leaning against a light pole on Bali Hai pier.

  12. While I stand by what I posted gained from experience while sailing some of the world I applaud your teaching. No doubt I would trust my kids to you for your ability. Growing up on the Chesapeake and the Atlantic you see tragedy that should not have happened.  We hear of the sorrow of people in Thai water just enjoying a simple swim on their vacation. If only they had basic water skills when young easily survivable.

  13. I heartily and unusually for me disagree with force. Don't grab what you lost as the current has taken away that option and your expending energy on failure . Growing up on the Chesapeake I swam almost before I walked  .The true survival skill is knowing when to swim. I could swim to Ko Larn where some not beyond the rip. Teach Droundproofing to the kids, it staves off panic until help arrives.

Between horrible roads and unskilled or drunk drivers I find myself acting like a WWI pilot when I WALK near a road with my head on a swivel.

I came home yesterday , should not have drank at Swampy knowing I only have a 45 min flight. I make it home and the wife opens the security gate and I drop the CBR. Wife is gentle and suggests my motorcycle days are waning. I agree and tell her I still want to go to Pattaya so maybe I'll buy an airplane. The look on her face. "You know I was a Pilot when I was young?" The look on her face.  Maybe a single engine Piston?

  15. While much appreciated at its time the map is way out of date and unhelpful except in a geographical sense. Perhaps not even that ,LK is tiny and Soi Boomerang isnt listed. Dont look for the couples bar "Secrets".   BM forcebwithu updates an excellent GC map but perhaps not what you are looking for.  Im sure you will get a lot of good response if you list what you would like as you did looking for certain music.  Im a complete nutcase , meticulous planner but in my initial visits i quickly understood the still valid advice. "Dont make plans in Thailand".

  16. Use to be my favorite until moving here and finding its poor quality or overly expensive.  For 6 nights here you would do well at Villa Market. You can view the selection and prices on their website but they are no longer allowed to deliver. They are located at the Avenue on 2cd road along with the "Wine connection". 7/11 has Barefoot and Woodbridge.   Restaurants and clubs are hit/miss. It depends on how its stored and how much they sell.  I like Beer Bars but the wine may set in the open in the heat for a week.  I recently spent 3k on a bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape at the excellent Le Bouchon restaurant in Bangkok. Probably the most I've ever spent.  A common 500baht bottle is Signus which is a wine/fruit wine blend. The Surf and Turf restaurant on Wongamat Beach had a 3- 1/2 glass "Flight " for about 400 baht.   The real help here would come from Rhino Tusk. I saw him many times around town with a glass of wine. He hasn't posted in a while.
