Thanks for the advice everyone but the rubber trees we put in last year have been so successful we have decided to stick with them. Last year when we planted we were going to have a well dug but it was too expensive so without irrigation i did not think they would grow but of all the land planted last year ours are the best so stick with what you know. The land we purchased last year has a pond and we have bought a tractor so we can take better care of them, so its rubber trees with bananas in between and we are leaving about 15 rai for papaya and bamboo (eating kind). Thanks anyway and any ne

Yes, the evergreen deluxe seats were really good value but not anymore, same as business class with China were worth the extra money but the rise in prices i think has taken them out of the reach of an average punter like me, now i have to stay in economy

Flew with Emirates a month ago, the new Newcastle-Bangkok route, the only thing with Dubai was the bus from the plane to the terminal then getting through security to get inside, will probably fly with them again when i go to book my christmas flight up today.

Emirates for £482 sounds good cannot see you getting it any cheaper than that. Kayak.co.uk is a good site.

The wife would love that shes got 100's but she'd never sell any. Got back from Thailand yesterday so just seen the new land, paid the money and now have someone clearing it. Its 54 rai and decided to put bananas on next year, then we are going to look into palm oil but need to do a bit of research into this.

[quote I hope the Government gives the contract to Airbus and Northrop. Just based upon merit of the $20B Boeing fiasco back in 2003. BTW, I had an interview with Northrop last week, but it wasn't for supporting this program. quote] I'm going to be selfish and say i don't care who gets it, we make parts for Boeing and Airbus so as long as the industry is bouyant and i have a job, everythings good.

Is there any accounts you can put your money into that pay a reasonable interest rate.

Is it that bad in Lamai now, was my favourite place and considered buying something there myself years ago, not been for 5 years and then they'd turned the Rock pub in to a restaurant

Gary sounds like you have everything sorted, hope i'm in the same situation in 4/5 years time, getting there slowly but enjoying it, there lots of things we need tractor included, had to borrow everything of the wifes sister, maybe next year.

The farms 60km north of Kanchanaburi, i think some kind of fruit tree was what i had in mind we have 50 rai to plant next year so was hoping that after the initial cost and work putting them in something that takes a minimum of looking after. Mangosteen or Rambutan sound good. Potatoes i think would need a lot of looking after and finding people to work the land has been difficult.

We started to plant our land up this year, first has been rubber trees but cannot decide what to put on the rest as we do not want to put all our eggs in one basket and plant it all the same, any suggestions and anyone out there who has land how much of a return can be expected per rai per month off any crops grown.

Question: Living expenses in the Pattaya / Jomien area
BBB replied to Turbota's topic in Expat Issues
I normally expect to pay 2000bt electric, 1000bt water, UBC 1400bt per month and general running costs on the car will come to a couple of thousand p/m. -
Have just been enquiring about this myself and contacted one company called 1st Move International who quoted £166 a cubic metre (min. 2 metres) but not sure if this is cheap or expensive so still looking around and waiting for some more quotes.

I think your setting your sites to high you can get a very nice 3 bedroom house for £40,000 and that is equal to a lot less than $80,000. I am not sure about the loan option as we have just bought a 2nd house and put our other house and 37 Rai of land up as collateral and the bank still would not give us a loan so went for a cheaper house and paid cash.
