(quote name="Butch" post="1073564" timestamp="1400301099"] Have you considered getting a small mobile Air Con unit? They're good, not much noisier than a regular Air Con unit and not too expensive to run. However they do need an exhaust to be hung out of an open window, plus the water emptying every few hours. My advice would be, if you got a mobile one, to get an extension hose and put the unit in the room, feed the exhaust out as required but pin a thick blanket or towel around the gap left by the open window. To avoid emptying the water ( they cut off when the reservoir gets full) just get a length of silicon hose and push it over the nipple where the bung is located and feed it into a large bowl. I've got shed loads of silicon hose here and can always send you some out if you get stuck. We've got one in the UK , they're rated in BTU's but I'll be buggered if I can remember the formula for calculating the BTU to SqM ratio. For what they are the small units are pretty good, they take a while to get a room cool but do maintain the temp adequately. I've no idea of the cost over there , hopefully not mega bucks and the advantage being you can take them with you when you move house. Yeh. I think that,s what I will do. Wll pm you nearer the time about the silicone hose if - may? Cheers!

I meant B1,0000

So, can anyone tell me how many baht for a 5000 BTU in Pattaya? Also, anyone know the correct name and price of the "radiator" thingy?
-
Will look into aircon in Sept when I'm out next out. Need a quick fix now. She not sleeping. Too hot. Fan not much help. Hoping fan plus dehumidifier will tide her over. I'm thinking B1000 ish?
-
Anyone know where tilak can get a dehumidifier from, and how much it will cost me?
-
Tilak got the sms rate down to 5 baht per sms by having a yak yak with the AIS main office in Bkk. I'm impressed!
-
So I see from your signature. How thick am I
-
Yeh. You nailed it there! 5-6 sms per day was squat diddley. We talking 20+ easily accumilated thus: Her: Hey guy, how your dick 2day? Me: Hey: Now I hear your voice it hard like a rock! Her: So, you gonna use that rock? etc etc etc. You can see how it would add up, but as you say I thought this was pretty much charged as freetime as it is/was before. Never again to LOS...but I miss that facility as it was fun! Cheers! ps: You live in LOS?

Calltime or skype are of no use to me. I'm a train driver and am not allowed use of my mobile at work. A quick sms or reply to an sms is feisable when changing ends or in a siding as I don't have to put the phone on display by holding it up to my ear. If I'm not at work I'm in the gym or on the mountain bike so dislocated comms best for me. In fact I'm really missing the sms thing. She is sending plenty of emails, but it's not the same. To me emails are something that I check once a day on the desk top before crashing out. Thanks for checking for a BB package. I can't find one either, but one thing is for sure. Thai comms co's are pricing themselves out of the sms market.

Thinking about this again, it is free international texts she needs, not domestic.
-
I think you talk shit! I like to text. I'm dumb in that we don't get the large amount of free texts, but then again I'm not in the country and didn't set the thing up. You know what they are like, right? Texting you can do on the go. You don't have to down tools and allocate time to do it. It is an elongated conversation that can last all day. IT'S ALSO NICE TO LOOK DOWN AND SEE YOU HAVE A REPLY TO READ LOL

She is talking about some app called Application Line, which AIS downloaded for her. It needs to be on both phones. I have since purchased a Blackberry (via her) and she will get the app installed on it, again by AIS. Hopefully this will solve it. Shame a simple change of tarrif can't do it tho. Frostfires GFs app would be perfect if it fits BB.
-
She is on some 3G thingy, But the Blackberry version. It is the same in the UK. I can put my O2 sim into any phone and just use it, but as soon as I put it in a Blackberry I get an sms telling me I have to either get the bolt on or sign up to their Blackberry tarrif to use it! She gets the unlimited internet, free up to 2G I believe, same chatge for internet, 3 baht per min call (ok), but the 9B per sms kills us. The 600 free sms would solve it. What is the name of that tarrif? Cheers

I bought my gf the above phone a while ago to replace her antiquated one. She was delighted, but since she has begun using it her monthly bill has soared! It is averaging B5000 per month. Not being out there it is difficult to compare chatges with other companies, but AIS stacks up as follows: Calls - B3 per min SMS - B9 per min Data - B700 pm Gov Tax 7.5% The problem is the sms charge as we do this a lot. Just 10 texts a day, which isn't much for us, clocks up the best part of B30 in a month with the packet data, calls, tax etc still to add. Emailing is free, but without an audible alert is not a viable alternative. The irksome thing is that we had no problems with cost when she was using her old phone. So, is the hike due to the fact that she is now using the "Blackberry", or are AIS stiffing her by putting her on an inappropriate tariff? How do the other providers compare? DTAC, Truemove etc. Finally, if I got myself a Blackberry, is the BBM feature a freebie? If so that could be an option. Cheers guys!

For the last week or so my gf has seen service dropping off her AIS sim card to the point where she can now only receive calls. She can neither send or receive sms or emails, nor call out as I said earlier. The first thing she lost was the ability to sms internationally. I'm guessing that this is some kind of cyber attack by the Yellow Shirts aimed at cutting off Thaksins income stream. Anyone aware of this and where it's going? Should she switch to DTAC or Truemove or will AIS overcome the problem anytime soon? It's a bit of a hasle for her to switch as she need a special Blackberry.

It is all in a folder with see through sleeves, but the front index could finish up at the back once processed by a spiteful staff member. This is what I want to avoid. Cheers tho Dr Mick

So, tilaks visit visa application sits on the table before me fairly bursting at the seems. I have a strong desire to staple the various documents and photo copies together in their relevant groups, so they can not be mixed up or separated during the vetting process. However, I don't want tilak sitting there removing them at the vac interview. So, does anyone know if staples are welcomed or frowned upon by said agency?

What's fistful of dollars?

Ideally I'd like to buy in either Bkk or Pattaya, but if I can't get a decent silver bracelet and a ready supply of charms to add on in the future i'll be stuffed. A bit late for a change of tack then. I could get her a watch, but takes away the carrot of the annual charm for good behaviour.
-
Tilak and I are due to celebrate 3 yrs together soon, and I was planning on buying her a charm bracelet to mark such an unusual landmark, with the promise of new charm each year thereafter, dependent on continued good behaviour. (of course) All her current bling is silver. A silver bracelet, with 1 charm would seem a good option to match up with her current look as a starter. I was thinking of paying around B5000 for a chain, and whatever for the subsequent charms. However, when I look around here in blighty silver prices seem impossible to call. Generally, they are cheap as chips. From as little as £5.00 for a completed 6 charm bracelet, to £100 for the bangle only. Clearly, I don't know my silver as this pricing make no sense to me. I could cheap it, but don't really want to. I'm looking for B5000 worth of quality. I see ads for solid sterling silver at cheap prices but the very name suggests a compromise. I did buy her a thick chunky flat silver bracelet in Walking Street when we first hooked up. It was wide enough to have her family name inscribed on it and came in at B2500 if she was telling me the truth. It is something of this ilk that I'm after, I like the charm bracelet route as it takes away the pondering of what gift I'll take next trip. It's a charm every time. I did this with the ex, but in Thai gold. Cheap then, dearer now so she did well out of that. I did notice then however, that not so many shops stocked silver charms as gold. I don't want to buy a chain that I can't then easily get charms for. So in summary: Looking for a vendor where I can buy a quality silver charm bracelet with an ample supply of silver charms available for the foreseeable future. I know silver isn't generally as appreciated as gold would be, but I also know that said bling won't be targeted for snatching from her wrist as quickly as the 24K yellow stuff would surely be. Any pointers guys?

Cheers! I found that too and it is sorely out of date. Ex: Pre AIS G3 (code 03). A lot of free sites only have slots for AIS 01 GSM which is the old stuff. All the voluntary type bods who "know" I have come across so far tell me that this info is so sparse because the network providers want to keep it to themselves so the can utilise it as an income stream. I'm happy to supply the income for an accurate conversion, but I can't find a way to converse with AIS to ask for this info. All can find are inane smiley sites with no substance. Help!

Ta for that info Jacko. I tried a bit harder and I have found a way to extract the correct information required from the full AIS Cell identification code in order to convert it into GPS coordinates. I know this to be true because API locations did a conversion for me and the result was passable. Ex: Cell ID: 23281.32202.520.31 breaks down as follows... MCC 520 (Mobile Country Code) MNC 03 (Mobile Network Code in this case AIS 3G) These are constants. The variables are as follows... Cell ID 23281 (Unique number to ID the GSM base transceiver station the phone is connected to) LAC 32202 (Location Area Code ID's the phones location within the GSM network area) So: MCC 520 MNC 03 Can be followed by a multitude of Cell ID's and LAC's as the phone moves around... Cell ID 38431 LAC 5205 Cell ID 41521 LAC 5205 Cell ID 25211 LAC 32202 Cell ID 40093 LAC 5205 And so on and so forth. Unfortunately, this is where it all goes belly up for me as I haven't yet worked out how to convert these figures into the GPS coordinates that I'm after. As I said, it can be done but the agent who provided this service is proving unbelievably unreliable in it's dealings with me. Bloody frustrating I can tell you as I've well and truly sunk my teeth into this project now. So, I'm thinking that AIS would be best placed to provide a Cell ID map as they would have set the thing up under the watchful gaze of Khun Shinawatra ,but I haven't been able to find any relevant AIS website or department on any of my searches to aid me so far. Maybe a little local knowledge is called for here. Any suggestions? Cheers!

I tried, really I did. Way over my head tho...

I'm still struggling. It turns out that I only have the cell phone location coordinate in this type of format. Ex: 23281.32202.520.31 Anyone know how to accurately translate this into gps coordinates, or better still, is there a cell location map out there where I could just enter the cell coordinate in it's current form and get a positional fix?
-
Yep. You sussed it Martin. Instead of entering the required GPS coordinates I was initially using the cell location coordinate. Then the Decimal Degree, Degrees, Minutes, & Seconds, and finally the correct GPS Latitude and Longtitude format. Works on Google Maps now so full steam ahead. Thanks guys...
