I tip up to 500 baht for a good caddy, 300 - 350 if just OK +always buy them a couple of drinks on the way round, good value for 4 - 5 hours of their time in my opinion.

I think you must have been unlucky as I have found the A380 on the Dubai Bangkok leg the easiest for miles upgrades to business class. I have upgraded with miles twice and been upgraded for free a couple of times, in fact in April I was with my wife and daughter and all 3 of us got upgraded to business class at the gate in Dubai which was a nice surprise after being in cattle class from Gatwick - I should add that I am a Gold card holder on Emirates and this might make a difference. I would have to rate the Emirates A380 and especially business class as being excellent and I try to plan my flights to use it wherever possible. Trotski

Congratulations to all at Babydolls, I love the place and was in there quite a few times when I was over a couple of weeks ago, I also barfined a couple of very nice ladies but that is another story. Congratulations to all involved and have a great party. I am just gutted that I wont be able to get back until the end of October, only 5 months but who is counting !!! Trotski

Yes, this A380 does not really connect with the London A380 flight, but does fit very well with the evening flights from both Heathrow and Gatwick - maybe we will find later on that the evening Heathrow flight will be A380 as well. Anyway just booked this for October - Evening flight out of Gatwick to connect with the A380 to LOS. I am dying to find out if business class on the A380 is as good as I have been told, probably wont be but I live in hope. Trotski

I flew back into the UK on the A340 last Sunday (went out the previous Saturday) so a short but sweet visit. I flew business class and have to say there is not a lot of difference to Business on the 747 (especially if you are upstairs on the 747). One thing that is noticable however is how quiet the cabin is on the A340, they say it is the quetest cabin in the sky and I would tend to agree with them. Service with Thai in Business is always OK, never outstanding but Ok - on a good day Emirates or Etihad will beat it, but the trouble with both those is they are not consistant. Also with Emirates you have to watch out for which aircraft is on the route as you can find you pay a business class fare for a crap seat (think 1980's business class), although the aircraft with the new cabin are great. One advantage with flying Thai is that you get priority fasttrack inbound and outbound ,although no one will tell you where the fasttrack is on the way in (it is on the far right hand side of the immigration hall nearest concource C). Going out you check in and are then escorted to Thais own outbound desks - always through in 2 or 3 minutes and straight into the lounge. Thai lounges are OK but the food selection in the BUsiness lounges is poor, it is much better in the Emirates lounge. Will be heading back to LOS for a week in May and will be flying Emirates business class (paying economy but upgrading to business with miles). Then over for 10 days in November but have not yet decided who to fly with - I am tempted to try Emirates from Heathrow so that I can sample the A380, but the flight times on Thai are more convenient. As to cost, if I am paying full business class I usually pay around £1800 on both Thai and Emirates - quite ofter the Thai website shows silly prices but it always comes back to around £1800 at some stage so I just wait to book until this happens. Hope this mindless rambling is of some interest Trotski

This was posted on Thaivisa - if true folks may want to be careful about touching their caddie. BEWARE of Caddie No. 161 at Khao Kheow golf club....I am at a complete loss as to understand how this happened..... I removed the scorecard from her top pocket to record the score, and gave her it back....after 9 hoes another caddie turned up an said the other one had a headache....Good! i thought , as the previous one seemed unhappy, and never spoke 1 word... when i finished my round, the manager was waiting with the police, and informed me "you have broken the law of Thailand" " you touch lady" What a suprise,of course I denied it, had 3 witnesses, and another caddie who said I only took the card out of her pocket..Anyway, it cost me 2,000 bht or go to Siracha Stn. she wanted 5,000 at first..... So beware....161. Her name is PRY

Non of you seriously believe that this money grabing bunch of robbers calling itself a government will take less cash fromm passengers after the change than they do now do you???? One way round it will be to Easyjet or whatever to Amsterdam or Paris and pick up long haul from there though. I suspect that it would have to be completely seperate tickets though so no checking baggage etc all the way through. Its not the thought of paying a tax that annoys me it is the way the tossers in the UK government piss away the hard earned cash we give them on politically correct bollocks all the time!!! Trotski

Hi, I have been upgraded a couple of times on Emirates, but apparently this is not unusual. If you look on some of the airline forums you will see full fare business class passengers complaining about the number of economy people being upgraded. I have found that being well dressed and polite at check in really does help - if you get your boarding pass and find SFU written on it you may be in luck as this means Suitable for Upgrade and will be used by gate staff if they are looking for passengers to upgrade. I have to say the journey from London to BKK and back is a whole lot better in business. Best of luck with the upgrades guys. Trotski

HI Guys, - a quick question. Travelling to LOS for 10 days in November with Emirates (Economy). Now I am thinking I may upgrade the return leg to the UK to Business Class. Would it be cheaper to try to purchase the upgrade whilst in LOS than from here in the UK. Looking at the prices on the Emirates website it would appear that their prices from LOS to UK are a lot lower than UK to LOS (about half). Any ideas? Trotski.
