Good Idea. Definitely needs some research. If I am to provide then they can help me do that! Good Idea. -

I agree and the other older members of the family put in, I am not supporting the whole family, just my lady and her two daughters. But the household consists of all females, and I being the only male, while scary at times, qualifies me as the only one with the who can claim the mantle of the house! If you get my drift. -

I send my lady 30000 baht per month. She has 2 daughters, her sister and her daughter and her mother all living there. That is 6 women under the one roof. So when I come to stay I am the only male, so guess I'm the only one qualified to be the King! -
Aussie "themed" Bars in Pattaya
wonder6281 replied to Fondles's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Yep! 50 baht San Miguels, Free pool and good tables. -
Thanks for that. I have saved it and will definitely read it. All I want is to come to Thailand in about August for 3 months stay only. I don't want to do Visa runs or anything else. If it is as simple as explained to you then it might be the better avenue for me. Besides I think I will be making far more frequent and prolonged visits to Thailand once my lady has the baby. Cheers

Well you can't everything, looks like I will ahve to go without, just have to watch more footy!
-
Thanks for that. My lady has the same cable, so I guess I'm going to be starved of my footy when I move to Thailand. Thank god for the Internet as it seems this will be the only way I will get to see it. ABC Asia only shows limited games, and when compared to a decent lifefstyle over watching my choice of games, well I choose lifestyle.

I'm aware that Australia Network broadcasts some Australian Rugby League games, but is there a sattelite company or other means that shows every LIVE NRL each week. I visited the Boxing Roo on a few occasions but never caught the game I wanted to watch. In Patong the Aussie Bar broadcasts all games live. It must be possible. Thanks

I hope that all goes wel for you and sooner the better.

I have flown Thai 3 times, Jetstar once (never again) and Singapore once. I thought Singapore was by far the better airline. Only they don't fly direct to BKK. At the moment Singapore are far more expensive than Thai, and I'm looking at a January flight and there are specials from anyone at the moment.

Thank you, I wouldn't have known that. Bit of a bugger when you are expected to purchase a return ticket and then have to cancel and re-book. Unless having a 60 day visa means I can book a one way. How many extensions can you get, given you get 60 days extension and I would say you spend a fair amount of time there with your wife and daughter. I thought one was all that was permitted.
-
Typo, I meant 60 day, but I think you knew that. But thanks, so I can do this a t Jomtien and can it be done on the last day of my 60 DAY VISA?
-
I plan to get the 6 day Tourist visa in August 2010. Then seek the 30 day extension. Questions is, Do I have to travel to BKK or is there somewhere in Pattaya or nearby that this can be done. Thanks.

Great drop that!

Nowhere to walk to from my place.... and the soi dogs make that a hazzard. A trip to the 7-11 aint' worth maneuvering the truck. There are a couple of places I visit in Pattaya, but the frustration of sitting in traffic and finding parking gets to me, but the TGF loves to drive the truck around and has been known to 'get the beer'. When I stayed at my TG house, I would take the stroll from the house to 7/11 to get a few beers. Much easier, besides I like a walk. As far as outside of the estate the bike has its advantages especially when I'm riding pillion. Going into Pattaya is much quicker on the bike, but I am always looking out for her and my safety. In a car I am prepared to deal with the traffic just for the safety aspect. And while I agree parking can be a problem, at least I can put my head back if I have too much to drink before heading home. The secret is to have a couple of cold ones while navigating the traffic. And I love the fact that she is prepared to do the beer run sometimes. They are such good girls.

I agree, I much prefer the car especially for getting out to do the shopping etc. The bike has its purpose but they scare the shit out of me. While my girl is happy to use the bike (because thats all she has) I much prefer to travel safer with a good seat and 4 doors for protection.
-
I'm in no rush to invest in Thailand. so I will wait I have plenty of time. I agree that I will need a car cause the girl only has a bike and I do find this restrictive as you say "shopping". While I am determined to seek retirement in LOS, I think the separation of everything I have known in Oz, will be the greatest hurdle.

Thank you. Sounds like a more reliable way of doing things. Relying on family has its flaws. At least by paying for a service you can expect some decent result.

Yes a lot to think about that is why I sought the advice of the board. I might want to add that this is happening in the near future rather I plan to get sorted within a 2 year timeframe. Just getting prepared thats all. Again appreciate all feedback.

Banglamung East Pattaya.

I plan to move into my ladies house and help pay the mortgage costs of 10500 p/m. She is working of course so any checkbins won't be coming from my pocket only.

Yes a Fireman, and the 3200AUD per month is for life indexed to CPI. The Insurance top up is until I reach 66 and is about an extra 1000 AUD per month, but this is dependant on me providing a Medical certificate every three months for the first year, then every six months. The only mail I would receive would be bank/credit card statements which can be handled on-line I guess. Friends and relatives would have my Thai address anyway. 47 is young, but my medical condition (work related) is only going to get worse so why not indeed and retire. But it's up to the boss in the end. The relationship with my girl is very solid. We have spent 4 months living together, 1 month in her house and three months in Oz and there is no problems. I am planning another month there early next year and staying at her house again. Everythings is working out fine between us but I was shocked to see you write that 90,000 isn't enough. I thought it would see me live quite comfortable. Anyway thank you for your feedback, much appreciated. Mark

Thanks for advice. My plan is to pick up my firies pension of 90,000 baht per month. My girl has a house so accommodation is sorted. And I will need to buy transport (car). I intend to keep my banking as it is can I can access everything over the net and ATM's. I'm only 47 and realise I cannot get a retirement Visa yet, but I have plans to marry my girl when I get there eventually. My main concern is receiving all my importnant mail from Oz. Will companies, like my Super fund send correspondence to me in Thailand. I'm guessing not so I will need to keep an Aussie address, maybe a relative. Taxation is query too. What happens there? And voting etc. All the things that are obligatory if you know what I mean. Also when I'm retired I will be entitled to an Insurance top-up on top of my pension, but I need to have a quarterly medical to maintain the payments. Knowing Insurance compnaies I think they will not accept a Medical Certificate from a Doctor n Thailand, rather I will need to fly home every three months. Anyway that explains my position a bit better, all I need to know is start the ball rolling on my early retirement. Cheers

ok, you have retired in Pattaya, When you look back at when you planned to do this, what did you think, what did you do and what pitfalls do you remember. If you could gather all your experience, what advice in a form of checklist would you offer up for anyone, like me (Aussie) looking at permanent reirement in Pattya. All opinions respected. wonder6281
