  1. Hi Lordflash ............... Just sent you a personal message & e-mail. Look forward to hearing from you. Are you based in the UK or here in PTY? Cheers.
  2. Jerry welcome aboard. All the info on any topic is here on the board so you make no mistakes!! Cheers DaveyH
  3. Montydog ....... I think the restaurant is called " ***** Hof", arn't they all? I been a couple of times to the Bavarian Beer Garden on Beach Road, ordered a currywurst & snitzel during Songkran........ not too impressed with the food. Will try the Bier Garden in BKK .... thanks. Nothing like being in BAOR for the "Real McCoy" that's for sure, mainly Berlin for me, remember it well in my military days! BTW They do some pretty good german foods in the supermarkets here, especially the sausages, potato salads, gerkins, mustards etc, good variety of bread too! Loads of other German restaurant
  4. There is a small german restaurant/bar, next door I think to a pharmacy on Beach Road opposite the old pier complex before you get to Walking Street. I've eaten there a few times & the food is good. Prost! Enjoy your stay
  5. Question: What happens when these coffee coloured, silk skinned beauties go bungy jumping? Answer: They eat on the way down & sleep on the way up!
  6. I think the increase to 1.5 million baht will effect only those that are applying for a retirement visa for the first time. I'm sure I read this sometime ago when this was rumoured & first reported in the local papers. The Head of Immigration agreed in the article that this was a fair & proper way forward for those that already had this visa in their passports as they had planned their retirement on the 800,000 baht requirement. Fingers crossed anyway or there will be lots of expats on regular visa runs making life difficult for many, especially with the exchange rate causing havoc at
  7. Don't try it with Thailand's finest ................. your retirement could end abruptly due to a shortage of breath!! Great story though 10/10.
  8. Hi Golfer ................. I've always stayed at the Residence Garden. Check out their web site linked to Pattaya Pages, "what you see is what you get" .........by far the best deal in town IMHO. It's hassle free, really friendly staff, clean & very comfortable suites, good food at the right price, room service & nothing is too much trouble ......... if you need anything just ask at reception! Sadly, I don't stay there now as I've settled in Thailand & bought a place, but I do miss the daily action by the pool & going OFAB with other residents in the evenings. It's a fun pl
  9. Rhoel ............... Try the Expats Club at Henry Beans on Sunday. In the past they have gone in groups to obtain the Thai driving licence with a Thai lady who knows the ropes. Worth a visit to get your licence. The first lasts for one year & then by re-applying after that will entitle you to a five year replacement. Word of warning though ..... ask for five years or they will just give you a one year .......... TIT! Regards Davey H.
  10. Hi Soi7 ............. Yep, Thai Military Bank also has the 150,000 limit too, but I think it's safer just having the 20,000 baht limit. What I do is take out 20,000 & after midnight if I need it I go again! Hmmm! I think it's a personal choice depending on your virility?? Sadly I'm getting to the stage now where my tender years are telling on me & all I need is pocket money! Ah well!!! ............... It's still a great place to live & would'nt change a thing. Cheers & enjoy Regards Davey H
  11. I have used Thai Military Bank for three years situated at The Royal Garden Plaza on the ground floor. Never had a problem & all my international transfers from the UK have been quick & efficient. It has an ATM outside which is great for a top up when they are closed or if you just wish to check up on your account balance, especially when a transfer is due. Ibb at The Residence garden recommended me to them & it was very easy & straight forward, very helpful manager & staff too! They open on Saturday mornings & most of their ATM's around town have been replaced with ne
  12. Yep ............. I agree with Owen. Go either to the Expats Club meeting at Henry Beans on Beach Rd Sunday morning or the other Expats Club meeting on Saturday at The Green Tree on Beach Rd, but I think they have changed their venue as it ages since I personally went to the latter. Both have a host of info on all subjects, plus most members have used lawyers in Pattaya for one thing or the other, mainly for house purchase etc, so it's a safe bet. Perhaps a board member knows where they hold the other meeting now?? Best of Luck Davey H
  13. Big D ......... I leave UK on 30th for BKK. See you at the FLB at the weekend for a beer or two! [smiley=beer.gif] Cheers Daveyh [smiley=thumbup.gif] [smiley=thumbup.gif] [smiley=thumbup.gif]
  14. Bruce ............. Although you'll be thinking that Phuket is "heaven on earth" a visit to Pattaya is a must, so if you do not run out of time go! The beaches are not the best but the rest is! ;) Head for the FLB before 8pm if you decide I'll be there from 31st May onwards if you want to tour. ;D ;D First time is special & don't do what I did by watching the pennies you miss too much! Set the daily budget & go! [smiley=party.gif] [smiley=3some.gif] [smiley=beer.gif] Have a great time! Sanuk Daveyh [smiley=thumbup.gif] [smiley=thumbup.gif] [smiley=thumbup.gif]
  15. Soi_Sniffer ................ Thanks for yr reply it's appreciated. Her english at the mo is not great so the Thai version will be the best for sure. The top up cards will be more manageable too! For some reason they prefer to have one from England, but that is probably due to the class thing in LoS. I'll give it to her infront of her friends as they like that. Cheers Daveyh [smiley=thumbup.gif]
  16. I'm thinking of buying a Nokia mobile for my TG as a pressie. I would appreciate any info on whether it is best to buy one in Thailand or buy in the UK and insert a new SIM card in pty? Some UK network providers put a block on their phones and I'll not really know if the info they give me is for real until I try to use it on the local network having bought the card in LoS. If it is blocked I've heard that you can get them sorted for aroung 500 baht? Is this true. Thanks guys. Cheers Daveyh [smiley=thumbup.gif]
  17. There you go ............ disallusioned once again :-[ , just when I was beginning to believe all irish guys were generous [smiley=crying.gif] Daveyh 8)
  18. Joop ....... I'm with you on this one. Lets face it guys we are here to enjoy ourselves, so why spoil your holiday by worrying over a few baht...... 10, 20, 50 or 100 notes are small change to us. What I always remember when I'm in Thailand is the tremendous value & fun we get for our money!!! A little tip that I use often is ..... I tend to pay for breakfast with a large note each day & ask for small notes which leaves me with lots of change for baht bus, tips etc. Enjoy your hols guys & sanuk. Daveyh [smiley=thumbup.gif]
  19. Flashman ........... Just go ........ I promise you that you will never be the same again! ....... double meaning here if you've read all the above posts, especially if your UK tilac finds out! Hmm! I just love the place, whether you're just chilling out or night hawking it's just the best. If you've honestly have never been it's definitely one on the list not to be missed before you die! Trouble is once you have ....... you go back again & again & again! Not good for a steady relationship unless you live there. Check out Stevens365 recent post to give you an incite. [smiley=Eyecrazy.
  20. Paul ........ What a very kind & generous gesture! You go right ahead babe & find the biggest limo you can, but it must be white with black windows! Could you make sure it's a lady driver & make sure she's wearing a thong with high kinky patent leather boots (you know the one's ....... the same as what I saw you wearing last year in Misty's!) ;D ;D ;D ;D See you soon pal Daveyh [smiley=newbie.gif]
  21. Anyone arriving early morning at BKK airport around 0620hrs that would like to share? I'm coming in on Thai Airways TG0911 from LHR arriving 0605hrs & going straight to Pattaya. Staying at the RG but I'll drop you off first if you are not. Should be there by 0800hrs just in time for breakfast & a Soapie! Cheers Daveyh 8)[smiley=cheers.gif]
  22. Griffo ............ Try ebookers.com for Thai Airways. I've just booked a direct flight to BKK & rtn for £412 + tax. The dates are fixed once you buy but it's a really good deal. The flight is out of LHR Term 3. My ticket took only 48hrs & it was on the mat! Best of luck. Cheers Daveyh [smiley=cheers.gif]
  23. Ghost ............. Ask Ib for either 101,201.301, 401,501 or 601, these rooms I believe to be the furthest from the noise in the main building. I was there during Dec & Jan for six weeks and I must admit I never heard a thing in room 401. However, at the time they were just laying bricks so it may be different now, but the further away you can get the better I guess. Have a good one & sanuk. 8) 8) 8) Cheers daveyh. [smiley=cheers.gif]
  24. BeachBoy ......... Did'nt see her again once you left, perhaps she got the push as there was a couple of nice little cuties there during my last week, it certainly made me get up early for breakfast! I agree it would be great to have a TV in the bedrooms. I wonder if "Ib" is reading this??? See you in LOS in May pal. Cheers Daveyh.
