  1. Why would you want to incur all the expenses associated with a Boutique hotel whilst aiming the product, price wise, at a 3* tourist market? It sounds good from a punter's point of view but rather silly from a hotel owner's. From what I've seen, a decent "boutique" hotel in Pattaya/Jomtien commands 35-50 Baht/sq m per night - BTW, I wouldn't call the RG a boutique hotel - i.e 1,400-2,000 Baht per night for a 40 sq m room.
  2. First flight wasn't delayed at all. First dellivery - 20 months. Quotes of the week ...... How sweet it is. Once again American ingenuity and manufacturing prowess comes to the fore. Without the subcontractors delivering quality parts on time the Dreamliner would be a pile of parts sitting on the assembly line. Billions of Euros down the drain and years of delay Once Boeing sent over competent American engineers and they put a foot up the butt of the EU engineers they started to send over a more completed product. Power on is 100% successful and Boeing has 896 orders for this plane. Not bad for a plane that has never flown. Boeing engineers are the lead designers and have a deep understanding of how to handle composites from years of experience working with them on other aircraft programs. I wonder if the Airbus engineers realized they don't have the technological capability to work with composites on such a large scale and deliver the plane on time? Maybe they should ask Boeing to 'loan' them the engineers who have the skills necessary to handle this? Looks like Boeing has a good handle on 'theething propblems" with the 787. Still on with the July 8 roll out. Hats off to the Boeing engineers.
  3. Your shore visits have never been a big deal for me. I'm well aware of what they entail and why you are unable to compile any sort of half-decent TR from them. They only became a big deal for you and your imagining that I referred to them as your "fantastical trips" or some other nonsense. Again, I'm well aware that you have been abandoning your family for several months a year for the last decade to pursue Asian hookers. You've told us enough times, but that's your choice. Postage? In this day and age?
  4. You offered proof of your various shore visits from your cruises. Nothing more. It's not me that has to fly back to Philly three to five times a year. I'll send you a postcard from Loy Krathong.
  5. What's that got to do with anything? MM started a section where you could peddle your Walter Mitty fantasies. Use it.
  6. Perhaps you need to learn to think for yourself.
  7. Jeez, if it isn't Mr "on time and to budget". I thought you told us the thing was going to be flying by the end of this month. Wrong again.
  8. No. The A380 had been flying for 10 months when the minor issue with the wing appeared. It was 3% short of what was required for certification and easily fixed. The problem with the 787 is that it is 99% percent airworthy. Unfortunately, the remaining 1% is the bit that keeps the wings attached to the fuselage.

  10. Look on the bright side; you increased your post count by three. That's about all you achieved. Well, apart from making yourself look a proper twat.
  11. If I was only replying in what you deem to be context, you'd have a point. But I wasn't, so you don't. Odense asked for some info and I gave it to him. Simple as that. That's what the board is all about - sharing information - isn't it? If you have absolutely nothing to share, it's not my problem. If you want a job as a mod, drop MM a line. As for being a "mean spirited, snide, S.O.B" - one of us has provided information and the other has only vented his personal frustrations. Your problem, not mine. If you're going to use long words, at least try and get to grips with the short ones first. LOL.
  12. And, if you read further, he went on to say ..... "Does anyone know which different qualities there are of Thai silk - and what is a fair price per "standard unit" ? What standard unit is it measured in - square meters ?" Fucking idiot. As it is, Odense appreciated the reply .... Of course, if you have anything of any relevance whatsoever to add, please feel free to do so.
  13. A copy of Photoshop will set you back 100-200 Baht at Panthip. It does the same job.
  14. Odense, The difference in quality is normally between machine and hand-woven silk. You can easily tell the difference by looking at the edges of the fabric. It's difficult to put a price on it because there isn't a standard width and it is sold in metre lengths. Also, the weight of the material varies between 1 ply (blouses and shirts) and 6 ply (furnishings and curtains). There are some really good bargains to be had at the Jim Thompson factory outlet in Pattaya if you know what you're looking for. There are also a fair few, long-established dressmakers further up Pattaya Tai who quote competitive prices.
  15. From the normally reliable, Flightblogger site ..... While the installation of the 787 wing fix continues, Boeing engineers have returned to the drawing board to redesign part of the reinforcement, FlightBlogger has learned. As a result, company and industry sources say the 2009 first flight target could be in jeopardy as engineers work to redesign the fix for four remaining wing stringers. Boeing declined to discuss the modifications, saying that the next opportunity for an update will come on October 21st during the company's third quarter earnings call. However, the company did reaffirm that 787 "will fly by the end of the year." Internal schedules, say several program sources, initially targeted October 15th for ZA001's to return to ground operations with a first flight to follow roughly six weeks later, however the aircraft remains in the paint hangar as engineers work to complete the design and installation of the side-of-body reinforcement. I hope the thing flies. We can't have another annual Dreamliner on Schedule to Fly thread .... surely not?. Anyway, nice to see Scally has come up trumps again as Mr. Consistency .......
  16. From what I recall there are two lockable drawers (one inside the wardrobe) with keys which can take a decent sized laptop.
  17. Where are your offices in Bangkok and Pattaya? You get the taxi number, address and relevant telephone numbers on a printed form if you take a taxi from the rank at the airport. If the shit hits the fan with a pre-booked taxi, all you have is some guy's telephone number and e-mail address. If a Pattaya based driver doesn't know BKK and a BKK based driver doesn't know Pattaya, how do folks get between hotels in BKK and Pattaya?
  18. Mick, Not a direct answer but somewhat related. I have a pre-existing medical condition which requires me to have an annual check-up that subsequently sometimes results in me having surgery. Not a big deal. The first time I done it in LOS it cost 70k + nursing and accommodation fees which came out at around 100k all-in at Bumrungrad. A year later the same procedures were 120k at Vejthani. It was suggested to me that I should try the local hospital which is co-located with Prince of Songkhla University - alternatively, it was actually cheaper to fly back to UK in biz class and have the procedures done for free on the NHS. The price quoted there is 1.1k for the initial check-up and 11k for any subsequent surgery. Co-incidentally the specialist involved is the same guy that I would see if I went private to Bangkok-Hadyai Hospital. However, there is a requirement that you need a social security card or work permit to get the base prices. I did notice that PSU also has a large Faculty of Dentistry and you can get work done there at 10-20% of what it costs to go private. I think in a lot of cases you are paying a large premium simply to jump the queue by going private. It's OK for emergencies and unforeseen things which are covered by my insurance but for things that you can plan in advance it seems a bit of a waste of money to me.
  19. Decent staff are a must ........ and no pisshead farang owner in sight.
