  1. Cathay Pacific has some great fares listed on their web site www.cathaypacific/us $787.00 out of JFK if you fly between March 5th and April 30th. The best I could do for my trip in May was $1174.00 with NWA. I am flying out of my local airport so I will save the hassle of going to JFK and about $150.00 in parking fees. I booked my flight through www.bt-store.com
  2. I just checked the UA website..... 838.00 out of Philly for November. That is a real bargain. I haven't found anything close to that in the past year.
  3. e The Rossetta Stone program is OK at best. It is probably better if you know some Thai already. It does not have a translation of what you are learning which I found confusing. If you are a decent test taker you can easily pass the quizzes but still won't be able to speak worth a damn. In addition it is expensive. I have found Becker's book to be the most helpful although it has some faults too. Regards, Allen
  4. Areca Lodge is a great value for the money...those damn roosters not withstanding. The only problem with the place is it has become so damn popular it is hard to get a room there. The last 2 times I tried they only had rooms with twin beds available and even at that they were not available for the whole time that I needed a room.
  5. I was looking at the Charming Inn too. I will only be in town a couple of days before heading to Khon Kaen to see the girlfriend so I am looking to go cheap. http://www.thailandresor.se/charming/
  6. Has anyone checked this place out? Would appreciate any info. I have previously stayed in vacinity of soi 13 so I am also wondering if there are any advantages/disadvantages to staying on soi 6. Thanks. http://www.lordnelsonpattaya.com/
  7. I booked my flight for November on United's website. $773.50 out of BWI and they give me a 1000 mileage plus miles for using their site. I could probably do a little better out of JFK but ground transportation or parking would eliminate any savings.
  8. I used the All Asia Pass last November. Emil is correct...You have to travel through Hong Kong and you can only visit a city(other than HK) once. I used it to fly to Bangkok and Manila. You can extend the pass beyond 21 days for $100.00. They also charge extra if you fly on the weekend. This is a good deal if you can make it work for you over the dates you want to travel.
  9. I stayed here for 3 nights in October. This is a great place to stay in Bangkok. It is visitor friendly, has internet service, lock box at the front desk, and is clean but has somewhat dated furnishings. The Tuk Tuk service is nice but you can easily walk to Nana Plaza, the Soi 7 Beer Garden and the Eden. Skytrain is nearby as well. I noticed a couple of beer bars on this soi but never tried them out. I stayed in a junior suite...next time I will stay in a standard room as I didn't need the living room area. The lobby is very narrow so your walk of shame is very short.
