  1. Still believe this "easy money" fallacy now?? The one thing we learn from history is that we don't learn from history. Bear markets/crashes/declines have always happened and always will as part of the economic cycle. Everyone is a financial genius in a raging bull market.
  2. The site appears to be down. Something about service cancelled!
  3. Flying out of Indianapolis, Orbitz usually yields the best deals for me. I always check Expedia & Travelocity too though. Last trip was my first time on EVA. Very nice. Only thing to be careful about is economy class restricts your carryon bags to 7 Kg. That isn't much. I did not know this and mine weighed 13 Kg. They gave me some flap, but ultimately let it go. They actually weighed my carry-ons in LAX!! That was a first for me. Coming back, in Don Muang airport, they did not weigh my carry-on bags. Go figure.
  4. You could try this. Not foolproof, but would make casual theft impossible. I use one. http://www.pac-safe.com/ Travelsafe series
  5. For those who have stayed at Sandy Springs, what about street noise? Can you hear the incessantly honking Baht buses, motorbikes, etc. from the rooms or is it fairly quiet? Stayed in Tim's bar beer last time. Noise from 2nd rd was a bit of a problem.
  6. Bangkok fall sale fares on Cathay Pacific from $636 R/T* --- Last updated: 08/19/04 at 1:04 pm ET At a Glance Low price: $636 R/T Provider: Cathay Pacific Travel: September 5 through November 30 Book by: August 31 From LAX or SFO.
  7. I paid $750 (that includes all fees and taxes) for a Sep 8-Sep18 RT LAX-BKK economy seat. Turns out that even though Continental's website says EVA is a "partner" airline, OnePass miles only accrue when an EVA flight is booked through Continental. WTF? They told me I would get EVA miles, not OnePass miles. O well, who cares. Just get me there in one piece and with all my luggage!
  8. SB, May not matter to you, but fine print I saw on NWA cash & miles deal trips do NOT accrue new FF miles.
  9. Be aware the fares Eva shows you initially do not include taxes. Click on "fare rules" and you will get a pop up window showing the final price. I found that if either departure date or return date included a weekend, fares were higher. Like I said earlier though, EVA has awesome arrival and departure times in BKK and that was definitely a deciding factor for me, even if I pay a little more. Also, while this will be my 1st personal experience, I have read many positive comments about EVA in forums. They are a FF mile codeshare with Continental OnePass so you can accrue those mile
  10. I too am going in September and was hoping for a price drop too. After reading all the posts complaining of higher prices this year, decided to bite the bullet and buy a ticket on Eva from LAX. I live in Indiana, so will have to fly separately to LAX. Reason I did this was EVA arrival time in mid afternoon and departure time in early afternoon is soooo much more humane than the 1150PM arrivals and 0600AM departures of NWA. $750 for EVA ticket. Haven't purchsed LAX ticket yet. Also read many positive comments about EVA Air.
  11. Travel agents, at least in US, don't get compensated by airlines anymore and have been forced to either charge hourly fees, flat fees, or some other way to make money. I am a cheap charlie too, but they are performing a service and are for profit. That said, this place advertises a double money back guarantee if you find a cheaper price elsewhere. My 2 Baht.
