  1. Interesting debate occured last night between a couple of the bar owners up here. If they decide to be World Cup football-free, would customers be more or less likely to go there. They realise some people are deliberately going to Thialand because they think its far enough away to be safe from bunches of roudy football fans yelling support for their favourite teams. Other people just hate football and will leave any bar which switches the bar TV over to football. To make the poll simple, we assume the bar is a good one, nice girls, good music and excellent beverages at a reasonable pr
  2. I have discovered by playing that you can delete a bad poll if you use the moderator box at the bottom left of the Poll screen. I have not idea of how the code is set-up on the new forum yet so I do not know if there is a way of editting the line/option details once launched. I've added some procedural notes in the thread here ... hope it helps. http://www.pattayapages.com/forums/index.p...indpost&p=79708
  3. Well bugger me sideways with a pineapple! I knew the sods could cuss bad but they have authorisation for swearing and oaths Since I'm know for the occassional profanity and X-rated expletive, can I get one of those authorisation certificate thingies too, just to keep things nice and legal? :)
  4. And there was me thinking me history teacher said it woz ships that carried the Plague to Europe .... damnit, always knew I should never have trusted all that weird stuff a teacher said. I'll go get my pills.
  5. OMG , hHave you seen what they put into those commercial-type snack bars [smiley=yikes.gif], all those E numbers, stabilising chemicals and purified sugars ... at least our plump little rice rat has been raised on nice natural goodness and plenty of healthy exercise .... hmmmm, I'm getting peckish, .... anyone for a rat kabab? ;D BTW, was very tempted by fried grasshopper last trip out ... maybe I should get out more
  6. All mine abandoned ship > Now what's a guy supposed to snack on?
  7. We only have the americans work of that. If the Amerricans have evidence, then they should declare it. But in the past, the US intelligence has been badly wrong and innocent Europeans have languished in prison because of mistaken idenity .... trying to correctly identify Arabs whose names appear on listes is extremely difficult. It is guarenteed errors will have been made ... great way to win friends and influence people. Of the prisoners being returned to the UK, warrants have yet to be issued by the CPS ... there has to be some evidence put forward first that they have committed any offe
  8. There are some interesting erections in Thailand :)
  9. Anyone who has doubts about the death penalty should read the Lynette White murder history - 3 Cardiff guys, all lowlifes, were convicted of the crime and gaoled: Had the death penalty been in vogue, they would have awung. Last year, a DNA match convicted a single local guy for the murder, to which he has now admitted. The problem with the death penalty is it assumes the police are both honest and efficient. Niether are true. As for miscarriages ofjustice, anyone with a good knowledge of the Cromwell Street murders, has a very unconfortable feeling about the veracity of Rosemary Wests
  10. I have a late model Vaio and love it - the sony screen saver film is really nice and the TG's love it. The only trouble I have had was with the DVD writes being seen by Serifs DVDPlus. I put Nero 6 on there and it sees it no problem. The Click to DVD sometimes drops the sound on AVI files but I have no idea why. If you are into DV editting (and I am) the i-linnk port is really useful - I had to buy one in Pattaya and it took me 4 days to locate one ... if you need one buy it at home: The new Adobe Pro video edit suite gets around the above DVD problems - also has a DVD without menu option
  11. Thanks Ghost ... I'll fax off some information requests tomorrow. I'll have my camera/s with me and no doubt will present a trip report ... hopefully, the more members who head up-country and tell of thier adventures, the more will follow after. BTW, my experiences of Big-C type stores was tarnished after being dragged into one neaqr BKK by my then pregant TGs sisters, to go shopping in the baby section - my wallet still hurts regards Rhoel
  12. I'm thinking of heading up to Korat at Songkran with a certain BG ... looking for a guest friendly hotel, not too expensive since I suspect I will be entertaining her family for much of the time, (you know the sort of thing, meals, day trips, buffalo market .... ::)) Someone suggested the Sripatana Hotel on Suranaree Road, has pool, bar and restaurant. Has anyone stayed there or got any better suggestions? TIA Rhoel
  13. No problem ... see yer at FLB over the next week or so - I'll buy you a beer for your kind asistance
  14. Thanx Leo and Emil for the link. As for sailing over, you seen the weather forecast for the Irish Sea lately ... thats why I have doubled up the stern lines over the last few days - last night, I was up twice, last time at 03:50 to check where the inflatable was trying to go - I call her Nora Batty, English TV series character famous for her wrinkled stockings - the Avon keeps deflation hence the wrinkles looks connection - I'm too idle to figure out if its a valve or a hole somewhere. Just finished wiring up the new shore power feed, proper flush mounted socket in the cockpit, RCDed
  15. I need to send a confirmation booking to the Eastiny Inn but cannot find their email address on this new computer (so much for MIcrosoft address book export functions >) I asked the hotel reception and got the classic "yes, we have email address" then silence YOu have to love them! If anyone can post the information, I'd appreciate it - since I am on GPRS mobile connection doing Google searches or reviewing pages of back posts is really expensive (more than a longtime bar fine ) Thanx in advance APR BTW: The email from Flipper was nice too Does th
  16. News is breaking tonight that Air france and KLM are in merger talks ... if the EU permit it, they will become the largest airline in Europe (if not the world). KLM have been in difficulties for some time and Air France are know to be streamlining their fleet and routes (this included permanently grounding thier Concorde fleet for economic/re-fit reasons). This could cause a new round of mergers amongst other operators, according to aviation press reporters. At this stage, the affects on the passengers and flight costs can only be speculation. I hope this reduction in choice will not m
  17. HI Ling, No, the connection times have been good ... just the time the pages took to display - I have now downloaded MSIE5.5 ServicePack2 and this has solved the problem ... I had IE5.0 on this machine and for some reason it didn't like the new YABB upgrade. So for anyone else with a slow display, have a look at which version of IE you are running. Thanks everyone for the feedback. Rhoel.
  18. Thanks Pete, The ISP connection is excellent - 100 ms responses down the chain ... I have upgraded my firewall and virus software about a month ago, I suspect its to do with that: I'll blitz my config files and see what's amiss. THX again.
  19. Hi Pete, Glad tp see you back safe and sound ... hope the holiday went well. Since the upgrade, I am finding the posting and downloading from the board very slow indeed - even getting connection cut due to inactivity etc. Its only on the perl side, not the rest of the server. Neotrace asays the connection times to the server are fine. Could it be that its due to video streaming from the perl side? Could it be some other congfig on MSIE here? regards, Rhoel. BYW did you find the source graphics in your in-tray?
  20. My TG too me to the first floor of the Big C Mall on Second Road ... there is a mobile centre there which sold SIMS and could unlock phones for use on the Thai network: In the end (beciasue I was worried about a/screwing up my UK contract and b/the risk of having my UK works mobile nicked), I bought a pay-as-you-go cheap Nokia ... it worked a treat and I've had it unlocked for use here in the UK as my back-up - killed two birdies with one stone. BTW, any spare units you have on your LOS contract exoire after 3 months so mine run out in about 8 days Pity I can't re-route them to my TG's phone
  21. - Me? Enjoy a Sunday joint or two? As if ;D Seriously, the comments about how TG's view our culture/ surroundings has made me really take a look at what is around me - I'm putting in a heck of a lot of road miles at the moment so I get to see plenty ... I now understand where she is coming from: Things like the English tradition of Garden Follys ... Why build a garden house that could be lived in but never is? She's right, we're nuts. :)
  22. Thanks guys ... I'll contavt KLM and check usage with them. CT - if I am right from your post about things TGs say "Who lives in Pigeon Loft" etc, I assume you are living in the UK with a Thai ... driving home last night I was listening to R2 late night and they were blasting out some fine pipe-organ music - so just a thought, have you ever taken your good lady to a Cathedral, especially if they are letting rip with the pipes? I'd just love to see her reaction to a musical instrument which is over 80feet high, and weighs several tonnes: Can I suggest Winchester as a good example? I ha
  23. Last flight out, I registered for Aairmiles with KLM. They reckoned that I would clock up enough to get at least one free leg on my next trip out to LOS. My first question is, "IS the pursuit of airmiles worth it, considering you have to stay wth the one carrier?" Question 2 - can you use airmiles on courier flights? TIA
  24. Amen, but the staff get shirty with your TG if she goes for a dip in her shorts and Tshirt.I also vote it best location to have dinner watching the sun go down - pity the roof bar shuts at 9pm
  25. The girls with the clipboards get paid by submitting a valid name, hotel and room number ... the named person then gets a call from an English speaking sales agent. Now I haven't done this (::)) but if you really want to a) put some money in the girls pocket and really hate some over-bearing loudmouth twat at your hotel, give the girl his name, hotel and room number ............................................. I understand that an London based stockbroker staying at the Eastiny Inn some 18 months ago, kept getting invites to lots of Timeshare viewings ;D
