  1. A couple of local friends took me over to this restaurant one night and it was really good. Nothing too fancy in what we ordered. Just tons and tons of seafood. All fresh, tasty, simply prepared and (I didn't pay but I'm pretty sure it was) very cheap. It seemed like quite a ways out, though...maybe 1/2 hour drive around the edge of the bay? There's a outdoor eating area that extends over the water. From there you can see the lights of walking street and that area. Anyways, maybe you've all been there already? I give it a thumbs up. My friends told me the place next door gets more business because it looks newer but they liked the food at this place more. (and no... i don't work for them, own any of it, know anyone who works there etc... it was just different and nice and I wanted to share ) cheers & good eating. btw. Keith was saying mata hari was pretty good. anyone else been there? what kind of food do they serve?
  2. ahhh this thread got me thinking of robj's sarina..what a hottie! :) also got me thinking of a trip a few friends and I took to a smaller town in China. We had a buddy with us that was black. There were pretty much no white guys in the town as far as we saw and he was the only black guy. People were staring (they apparently never seen a black guy before) and in a few restaurants waitresses would reach out and touch him. Similar experience with other locals. Some didn't like, many did (trying to rephrase what I removed below). He actually enjoyed it as he felt like a rockstar. all eyes on him whenever we went out. He is also a good tipper so once word got out (and he's easy to spot) service everywhere was pretty much exceptional for him. (removed detailed part about bgs in china... ) All I can say is even in China, he had a fantastic time. If you have the money & the attitude most of the time things will work out great.
  3. I never thought it was bad to use someone's open network... used to be that it was considered free if it was left open. In fact, for a while, I put my cable modem on a free open hotspot (I use a wired network to a T-1 for work and stuff) I read recently, however, that a guy got sued and lost for using his neighbor's wireless so do be careful... As an aside... if anyone has a wireless router and doesn't want people using it or trying to break into your network with it... Secure it! :)
  4. mine goes everywhere with me. it's a small one (sony tr3) but works well for what I need to do and fits in any room safe. i've never had a problem with it, but I tend to be nearly anal about locking everything up when not using it. friend of mine brings around a big, slightly older laptop, leaves it lying out all the time and hasn't had a problem yet. (he says he doesn't care if it gets stolen at some point, it'd be an excuse to buy a new one) I suggest bring two retractable cable locks. one for your computer and one to strap your computer bag down. my cable lock has an alarm on it...
  5. I just stayed there a couple weeks ago. Hungry and I had adjecent rooms. The rooms were terrific. Service was excellent. Even the cooking class was great. I had a mild insect problem in my room (an end room) but they came and took care of it. In the tropics with rain and a tray of giveaway goodies in my room, it's no suprise the tiny ants can find them. No problem with girls, one or more. A click of the heels and a salute from the guard by the elevator everytime and more or less indifference from the roving outside security guys. Never had to have the girl produce an ID (but maybe they all were familiar faces lol!). Night staff was very good and always greeted me (and my girl). Thumbs up if cost (or the difference in cost vs. other hotels) is not an issue.
  6. Fixed the link for you :) Your interior thumbnails link to the wrong pictures, though. You may want to check on that. cheers
  7. he should be able to get 8-10% cash on cash return without too much risk on his money. If he can manage to spend less than that, then he can retire with a reasonable standard of living (well depends on what one considers reasonable I guess) and still have his nest egg grow. :)

  9. Sriracha is great. I brought my family there a few years back. My daughters were 10 & 14 or so at the time I think. Just remember that liability is not the same there as here in the states. I didn'tt mind letting my kids take part in all the activities there, but it's all on you if the tiger takes a nip out of her. (seriously). In front of the zoo, they have many animals available for photo ops, you pay a little bit for each one. I think it was like 40 baht or so(?) Here's one of mine with a leopard as an example: and as a bonus, you'll see some cute thai gals there like this one from the croc show:
