I'd say that changing the 500 GBP into Thai Baht in your home country was probably the most costly monetary transaction you'll make on the trip. Travellers Checks are fine. Get them in the largest denominations you can, change them with a passport (not a problem since you can do it virtually anywhere you are staying). I wouldn't advise you to bring large amounts of cash...TC's are the way to go.

I agree about the fairness issue. Going back through old posts and +1 or -1'ing them to boost or lower someone's reputation is a misuse of the board's features (there is a rule about that). It's manipulation, pure and simple, and if someone doesn't grasp that, they don't have a real handle on ethical issues. Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be done.

I can imagine that...in fact, the visual is as real as day.

That's the same tactic I followed when I divorced my farang wife in the states. We stayed out of court and settled everything by consensus. It's not just a good way of dealing with the situation in Thailand. It works other places too.

It looks like it. Few people rate topics, probably due to lack of awareness of the feature. Most topics are unrated, and the ones that are, have 1 or 2 votes.

While we are currently on the subject of ratings, I want to point out another rating feature that is available and seldom used on the board. In several of the forums (not all presently), there is a series of 5 stars at the top of the topic's first post. You can click on these stars (1 to 5, 5 being the best) to vote your rating for the topic. As with reputation votes, I cannot say what should be going through your mind (sorry, Bazle) when you do this, so you'll just have to use your judgement and common sense.
