Well, the bus just got us back from Petchaboon where Om's family lives. 40 staff and friends went to the funeral on the bus and hundreds of others from the town showed up to pay their respects. We met her parents and sister...nice, stable folks. I think they will use the money wisely to replace the support they had from their daughter, Om. We had a collection box in the bar that had a total of 27,000B in it, thanks to contributions by expats, visitors on site, staff and friends of Om from all over Pattaya. Your contributions from Paypal at the time of our departure were 57,000B, and PattayaPete, being a round kind of guy, donated enough to make the total sum given to the family an even 100,000B! Om's sister, Wan, will be coming to Pattaya to next week sometime, and I can give any additional donations to her to give to her parents. At the present, there is about 8000B additional in the Paypal account. I will keep the account open until her arrival.

Okay...I have been assured by people on scene that we can come up with a way to transfer any payments to the family beyond that which is given to them at the funeral. So, if you or anyone else, wants to donate funds to Om's family, go ahead and use the instructions at the top of this topic. I have reopened the FLB Bar Paypal account again.

We've reached 57K baht with contributions. Since we are leaving early tomorrow morning for the funeral, I am going to request that no more donations be made via Paypal. At this point, I don't know how to send additional funds to the family, and I'd hate to be sitting on money and not know what to do with it. If it turns out that the family has a bank account, and if any one wants to donate at the bar, there might be a collection jar for a while. But, as of now, Paypal donations to Om's family will be turned off. Thanks to all who contributed. I can only match their handle with the contribution if they gave it to me in the Paypal transaction..so some folks will remain anonymous, since I don't know the handle that sent the donation. Some people have expressed an interest in helping Om's family. I have a Paypal account where you can send anything you want to give to the family. I will convert the money to Thai Baht at the current exchange rate and give it to her family at the funeral, or if the any funds arrive after the funeral, I will have them transferred to the family up to 1 week after this Monday. It's too soon to get specific, but the bar is taking steps to deal with this situation. We'll likely have an announcement as soon as the plans are made. Om was truly a special person who was a good worker, intelligent, and lovely. She was always there with a smile or helpful hint about things in the bar. Ironically, last night, Pete came in with his giant video camera on a tripod, and while we were talking, I zoomed in to Om's eyes and left the camera pointing at her as she giggled and smiled shyly. I only wish we had pressed RECORD to save this last memory of her. Om will be missed by all of us at FLB.

Pinewood Residence on 2nd Road, across from Soi 6, has ADSL internet in the rooms. FLB board members who register there and ask for the "FLB rate" and give their board handle will get a significant discount off their published rates. The smallest room is 43 sqm (about 470 sq ft) for 1240B/night - internet is 150B/day extra. Each room has a kitchen and a real refrigerator. Pinewood Residences They are guest friendly as well.

Many of the beer bars to the south of Soi 9 on Second Road and Beach Road, next to the empty field, have shut down as of last night. The land will be used for new construction. Dao Kai, Thai Thae and a number of others are finished in that location. I always liked hanging there...less noisy and impersonal than Soi 7/8...and frequently a good place to find new girls. I do know that Thai Thae has opened a new location across the street in the "Made in Thailand" location. If you know anyone there, drop by and give them some business...it'll be slow for a while with people learning to cross 2nd Road drunk.
