  1. Hello Mates, I would appreciate your help with the following hotel requirements: 1. Nice - clean room with a "new" feeling to it - not worn out... 2. Good bed - large and comfy (newish) 3. AirCo 4. Good location - close to the beach and to walking street 5. Quiet 6. In-Room Electronic Safe 7. No joiner fee 8. Up to 1500 baht per night Any ideas? Cheers!
  2. I stayed there about three weeks ago (begining of February 2007): a. The rooms are nice and new (at least my room) so no complaints here. b. The restaurant is not that great c. The view from the rooms - well, there is none. So if you want view - forget it. d. The joiner fee - no joiner fee for 1 girl - 500 baht for any extra girl per night - no problem for me since 1 is enough for me e. The price was 1500 baht per night. Plus 3% extra paid because of credit card. I stayed there for 11 nights and asked the manager (enlgish guy) to waive the 3% extra but he is very tough and not flexible. f. The manager would not negotiate any discount. 1500+3% per night not 1 baht less - doesn't matter how long you stay. g. They charge 1 night deposit in cash h. The manager said that they plan (soon - he said that starting from march) to get you to prepay for your whole stay so that if you say that you plan to stay 10 days - they will charge you upon arrival 15000 bahts + 1500 deposit . If you cancel or check out earlier you lose your money. I find this unreasonable - the manager finds this "industry standard" i. I think the manager is not a very nice guy (40ish single English guy and very arrogant). The owner (older guy - golf player , relaxed and laid back) however is very very nice but he doesn't run the show. So you have to talk to the manager (again, not worth talking to since he is arrogant) j. Location is great. k. Room cleaning was not that great. They nerglected to clean the basin and they forgot to change the sheets and towels at least 3-4 times. Didn't replace the soaps or shampoo until I requested. Could be better. l. Staff was so so. Some nice some not. So, to wrap it up: Rooms - nice. Atmosphere - not that great. Price - okish. If you don't give a sh%$ about the atmosphere or how the staff treats you - then the rooms are nice and clean.
  3. Thank you for the help guys! Arriving in Phuket on the 7th and leaving on the 12th Arriving in Pattaya on the 12th and leaving on the 16th. I know it's easy to find a hotel - but it's not easy to find a decent one... Thay's where you guys come in - some of you said that in pattaya you don't always get what you pay for - and sometimes you can get more for less - anything in particular??? Also - any ideas about phuket?
  4. MY mate and I are meeting up in Phuket and Pattaya - we are trying to book a hotel in Phuket and Pattaya and so far no confirmations. So we found a website: www.precisionreservations.com Which supposedly gives you instant confirmations. And a lowest price guarantee. Does anybody have experience with this website ? Can anyone please please recommend a hotel in pattaya and phuket with the following criterias: * Up to 1600 bht per night * Nice hotel - no flea nest with bed bugs * Decent location * In room safe Thank you so much!
  5. Thank you for your help however I believe that the Dusit Laguna is $100 per night? That's a bit more then I plan to pay. Any comments?
  6. Hi all, I am planning to stay 5 days in Puket and 5 days in Pattaya. I would appreciate your help with some recommendations about hotels in both places. My ideal hotel would have the following attributes: * max of 1600 THB per night * clean (no dump) * In room safe * Decent bed * quiet * OK location * guest and TG friendly I really appreciate your kind help on this. And, I promise to report after I stay there.
  7. Thank you all for the replies - I am going for the Dynasty Inn and will of course report.
  8. I was wondering if anyone here has experienced both and can say which is better? The price is similar so now it's about the experience... The Majestic Suites is fully booked so it looks like the above 2 are the only viable options... Thanks in advance.
  9. Regarding the LEK: a. We stayed in the new wing - and I was actually thinking "what? is this the new wing???" So I met an american guy near the lift and asked him if this was in fact the new wing - and he said "yeah this is the new wing, doesn't look like it .... but if you would have seen the old wing - then you would appreciate the new one..." b. I checked out two rooms, one was on the 3rd floor (my room) and the other on the 8th floor (my friend) - they were both (using moderation) - not very nice. c. regarding the staff, I agree that opinions vary, after all we are dealing with people and the staff might have had a bad day... maybe ... I really don't know. All I can say is that I did nothing to upset them, and I am actually a very calm person. The staff might have changed since some of you were there. I really don't know. All I do know is that we were treated in a very unpleasant manner by more than one person - and unpleasant is an understatement. d. Regarding our expectations - well, yeah I know this is Thailand - I've been to Thailand many times before (tho not to Pattaya) and all I can say is that this kind of hotel staff attitude is not very common in Thailand. Thai people are very kind and friendly in general.
  10. OOOOPs - sorry guys but I had a small mistake in my original post. The mistake was in the bad attributes of the Thai Garden resort. Some of the bad stuff should not be there! So, the botrtom line - the mistakes were only related to the Thai Garden Resort . The system would not let me edit this post so I am re posting it: Here is the correct post: I just came back from a 10 day tour of Bangkok and Pattaya and here is my review of the hotels that I stayed at: Swiss Grottino - Bangkok This is a really great find - a true hidden gem. The Good: + Super Super Clean Rooms + Larger than King size beds + In room safe + Renovated rooms - nice and shiny - owned said that the rooms were designed by the designer of the amari chain + No joiner fee - very friendly to guests + Friendly staff - very fair manager - good attitude! + Good location + Nice rooms in general + Great clean shiney shower and toilet + good price - 1700 Baht + Very secure The Bad: - Tricky to find when arriving for the first time - View from rooms - another building - but this is quite common in Bangkok unless you are in a high rise - No fancy lobby - not a problem for me - but for those that like a fancy glitzy lobby - this might be a down side Score: 9/10 Will I come back? I sure will. It's a keeper! Lek Hotel - Pattaya The Good: + Very good location - very close to center - close to everything + Price - reasonable - 1200 baht + In room safe The Bad: - VERY VERY VERY (extremely) UNFRIENDLY HOTEL STAFF - actually - I would say that the staff are horrible - simply disgusting. They are rude, unaccommodating and plainly terrible. - Rooms are run down, worn out and really crappy. - Crappy bed -worn out and not very fun to sleep on - Disgusting toilet and shower - Did I mention the hotel staff is rude? and not friendly? and cocky? oh, yeah - this is the #1 reason that got me and my friend to find a new hotel to stay at... Score: 2/10 Will I come back? Not even if it was for free. NEVER. .gif Thai Garden Resort - Pattaya The Good: + Very friendly staff - nice and fun + Price - reasonable - 1600 baht for a suite + In room safe + good food + nearby hotel bar - nice + Rooms are OK - not like rooms at the Marriott but quite OK. + Quiet guests - mostly europeans + No joiner fee The Bad: - Location could be better - tho the bhatbus system makes up for the location. Should not stop you from staying there - Again, the rooms are not fancy Score: 7/10 Will I come back? I might. Perhaps next time I'll try to find a hotel closer to the center or maybe a hotel that's just a tad more upscale.

  12. do you want a really great hotlel - with no joiner fee? You got it! Swiss Grottino It's a real hidden gem - good location - super super clean rooms - very large beds - in room safe - great clean new shower and toilets - in fact all you may ever need from a hotel - and the price - 1700 Baht. I just landed yesterday - so I was there two days ago. Great hotel - no fancy lobby tho... but who needs a fancy lobby? For me - it's a keeper.
  13. Hi, I guess this is the place to start the mini michelin guide to culinary pattaya... So let's start the thread: What's you favortite resaturants in Pattaya and why? Any high end places offering a truely amazing culinary experience (apart from eating Taco ) I promise to throw in my two cents when I come back from LOS! Thanks guys!
  14. I would appreciate hearing some opinions about the Grottino in Bangkok and the LEK hotel in Pattaya. I and a buddy of mine are planning to stay in these hotels and I was wondering if we made a good chice? The Grottino is 1700 Baht and the Lek is 1200 for a standard room in the new wing. Thanks for ur feedback!
