  1. The low-cost airline model which has revolutionised travel in Europe, the US and lately Asia may be about to go global. The biggest no-frills carrier in the East - Air Asia - has announced the launch of a sister company to ferry travellers between its hubs in South East Asia and Europe, primarily the UK. "We're going to really bring down costs on the long-haul product [in a way] that was never deemed feasible," Air Asia's chief executive Tony Fernandes told the BBC. "I think that will allow us to offer fares to London from $80 to $450 (£41 to £231) return," he said. 'One class product' Mr Fernandes announced on Friday that the carrier, which expects to carry some 18 million passengers around South-East Asia this year, would launch a new airline under its banner to do what many believe is unfeasible. "It's going to be a one class product," explained Mr Fernandes. "It may have some rows of seats that are nice but you pay for that." "We're not going to have business class lounges and separate check-in counters, but some people may be prepared to pay a little more for extra legroom." The first route is likely to be between Malaysia's under-utilised air hub outside Kuala Lumpur and the UK. Full article here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6232101.stm
  2. Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, established in February 2005, is a budget airline based in Hong Kong, with its hub at Hong Kong International Airport. It will commence service in long-haul flights between Hong Kong and Europe in October 2006, and between Hong Kong and the United States in the months following Hong Kong-Europe launch. Oasis will be flying 2 ex-Singapore Airlines Boeing 747-400 aircrafts. Oasis Hong Kong Airlines is founded by a Pastor, Rev. Raymond C. Lee, and his wife, Priscilla H. Lee. The chief executive, Steve Miller, was founder and first chief executive of another Hong Kong based airline, Dragonair. Oasis is Hong Kong's first budget fare, long-haul passenger airline. It plans to begin offering non-stop service to London in October 25 of 2006, followed by Milan, Berlin, Cologne/Bonn (Germany) and destinations in the U.S. (Oakland, Chicago). Sales are expected to start in September 2006 through the company website and travel agents. One-way fares will start at £75 or HK$1,000 (excluding taxes and charges) for at least 10% of the seats available and include hot meals and inflight entertainment. Oasis destinations are all leading budget carrier hubs. London Gatwick, Milan Malpensa, and Berlin Schönefeld , for instance, are hubs for UK's budget carrier Easyjet, which serves over 30 European destinations. Cologne Bonn Airport is the main hub of German low cost airline, Germanwings. In addition, Oakland International Airport is a hub for Southwest Airlines and a focus city for JetBlue Airways. The cheapest return tickets from Gatwick cost around 260£ ( taxes airport charges included) http://www.oasishongkong.com/
