Best High End Guest Friendly in Pattaya
doghaus replied to tedturner01's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
We run a tour company here in Pattaya so I can give you the lowdown on the top properties as follows: Definitely not guest friendly: Royal Cliff, Dusit Resort, Centara Guest friendly by prior arrangement: Amari (I recommend the Towers) Definitely guest friendly: Dusit D2, Marriott New and unproven: Hilton, Holiday Inn. We haven't booked any customers into these places yet. We have a number of our guests stay at the Tara Court on Pratamnuk Hill. They have some 1 bedroom suites that beat the Marriott for value. If you care to send me a PM I will give you rates for Dusit D2, Amari and Tara Court. Watch out for compulsory Christmas and New Year dinners that will be higher than the room rate. I can sometimes negotiate these out for you. Best regards. Doghaus -
That's great news. I will get in touch with his agent to see if he can play in the RideHer Cup on 3rd November! Doggie

doghaus replied to doghaus's topic in RideHer Cup Planning and Discussion
Dear Golfers With the official Ryder Cup finishing with a dramatic climax in wet and windy Wales, it seemed timely to keep you up to date with the plans for our November Golf Festival in sunny Pattaya! OK – it is raining here right now but I am sure it will have stopped by November! Here is a summary of the events that are taking place in case some of you have missed the information on the internet. Friday 29th October - an informal practice day at Burapha to warm up for the RideHer Cup. Tee off 10.30. Cost 2,600 baht including transport, green fee, caddy fee and cart. Sunday 31st October - registration evening at FLB Bar for the RideHer Cup and all the other events at the golf festival. We will also be handling registrations at our office before and after this date. Monday 1st November - Baby Dolls Texas Scramble at Siam Plantation. 4 man team Scramble/Ambrose followed by a party at Baby Dolls starting around 8.30 pm. You can enter this event as a team of 4 players or as individuals. We will form teams on Sunday. Cost 3,900 baht including transport, green fee, caddy fee, cart, polo shirt and the notorious party with food! Tuesday 2nd November. Captains announce the RideHer Cup teams. We will make the announcement at O’Garas Bar and Grill in the Tara Court. Many of you are staying there so it will be a short journey in the lift. Our USA Captain is Tom Adam and Europe will be Captained for the first time by Duncan Mathieson. I am sure the respective captains will make sure all their players are tucked up in bed early! Steve O has asked me to remind you all that the drinking will start in the morning with the Melbourne Cup televised live in O’Garas. Wednesday 3rd November. RideHer Cup Day. This is the ninth year and a number of you have played in all 8 previous competitions. USA have won 4 times, Europe 3 and one draw. We have booked Burapha for a 10.30 tee time off two tees. Transport will depart this year from Central Pattaya at 0900. We are freshening up the event this year with a few changes. Firstly, we are changing the format to 9 holes four balls and 9 holes foursomes. This will mirror the Ryder Cup format and should speed up play. The Mulligans and reverse Mulligans will be removed but we might replace these with a few new twists if the players want them. The programme will now feature dinner right after golf at the News Cafe. We have booked a barbecue for 5pm so we will go straight there after golf for a private barbecue buffet. Non-playing guests will be welcome to join the barbecue for an additional charge. The FLB party and prize giving will take place at 10pm giving everyone a chance to relax after dinner. Your RideHer Cup entry fee is 3,700 baht including transport, green fee, caddy fee, cart, polo shirt, cap, dinner and prizes. Friday 5th November. The Misty's Open at Eastern Star. Individual Stableford Competition using the 36 handicap system. There will be a party with food upstairs at Misty’s starting around 8.30 pm. The entry fee is 2,900 baht including transport, green fee, caddy fee, buggy share, polo shirt, party and prizes. Any golfers who register in advance for all 3 events - Baby Dolls, RideHer Cup and Misty's Open - will qualify for a special season ticket priced at 10,000 baht. Sunday 7th to Wednesday 10th November. A 4 day/3 night road trip to Hua Hin with two rounds of golf at championship courses. We visited Hua Hin 2 years ago and had a great time on and off the golf course. We will leave Pattaya at 12 noon on Sunday and drive to Hua Hin. We have booked the City Beach Hotel which is right in the centre of town. On Monday we will play Black Mountain which will host an Asian Tour event in December. On Tuesday we will play Banyan which was awarded the accolade of Best New Golf Course in Asia. We will return to Pattaya on Wednesday via either the floating market or Rose Garden depending on what people would prefer to do. The package includes 3 nights hotel accommodation with breakfast, transport, green fees, caddy fees and carts. Prices are: Single golfer in own room: 17,500 baht Golfer sharing room: 13,800 baht Non-golfer sharing room: 6,800 baht Friday 12th November. 3 clubs and a putter competition at Khao Kheow. This will be a fun event where teams of 2 players are limited to using 3 clubs and a putter each. The cost is 2,500 baht inclusive of green fee, buggy share, caddy and transport. There will be a memento for the winning team which will be presented at the golf course after the scores have been collected and checked. Week commencing 15th November. I will arrange 3 golf days this week. If there are enough people still in town I can run a couple of competitions during these days. I have already had registrations from many of you for the 3 Pattaya competitions. If you have not entered already, please email me at sales@solargolf.co.uk with your name, handicap and shirt size. If you would like to book for the Hua Hin trip, please email me with the number of persons and whether you want single, double or twin rooms. We are looking forward to welcoming all our regular and new golfers to Pattaya for this great festival. Doggie -

Just 2 months to go and we have 28 entries already confirmed for the 2010 RideHer Cup. There are still 20 places left so please get your entry in soon to avoid being "waitlisted". I played Burapha on Monday and it is in great condition after hosting the Thailand Open. It will only get better as we reach the end of the rainy season so I expect a top class set-up for our event. If you need hotel rooms please email us at sales@solargolf.co.uk and we can give you some great rates at our partner hotels. We also have some 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses available with full maid service for weekly rentals. Keep the entries flowing in! Doggie

Sorry for the delay in posting the result of the RideHer Cup. Busy day here getting ready for tomorrow's tournament. We had a great day out at Burapha. The final result was: USA 12 1/2 Europe 5 1/2 Well done to all the players. This gives the USA a 4-3 lead in the series.

We will play 18 holes at Burapha Golf Club playing C and D courses – this year’s competition venue. Transport will collect you from your hotel between 0900 and 0915 and will return at 1700 approx. Please tell us your hotel name and room number when registering. The cost is 2,300 baht inclusive of green fee, buggy, caddy and transport. Sunday November 1st – RideHer Cup Registration Evening Sign up for the RideHer Cup and other golf events at the FLB on Walking Street between 8.30pm and 10.00pm. The captains will announce their teams on Wednesday evening. Please pay your entry fee of 3,700 baht on Sunday evening or in advance at the Solar Golf office. Your entry fee includes green fee, buggy, caddy fee, polo shirt, cap, prizes and a party with Italian buffet at FLB. This event is nearly full so anyone who has pre-registered should pay their entry fee on or before Sunday 1st November. Additional players can place their names on the waiting list and they will be given any places that become available as a result of cancellation or no show. Monday November 2nd – Fun golf day! 3 clubs and a putter competition. This year’s Festival features a new event – a 3 clubs and a putter competition. This will open to teams of two players – better ball stabelford with a full handicap allowance for each player. Maximum handicap 28 for men and 36 for women. Select 3 clubs and a putter and then take the rest of the clubs out of your bag! We will be teeing off at Phoenix at 11.17 so transport will collect you between 10.00 and 10.15. Please tell us your hotel name and room number when registering. The cost is 2,500 baht inclusive of green fee, buggy share, caddy and transport. There will be a memento for the winning team which will be presented at the golf course after the scores have been collected and checked. Tuesday November 3rd – Ride Her Cup Captains team announcement There will be a change of captains this year. Tom Adam (Mescalito) will captain team USA for the second year in succession. Bruce Eggleton (Hilly) is taking over as non-playing captain for the European team from Ian Duers who wants to concentrate on his golf this year. The captains will meet at 8.30 pm at FLB to pick the teams. We will allocate any of the available places to wait listed golfers before the captains draw the teams so wait listed golfers should be at FLB around 8.30 pm. The teams will be announced at 9.30 pm. Wednesday November 4th – The 2009 RideHer Cup. Possibly the greatest golf event in Asia, this prestigious tournament is in its 8th Year. This match play event pitches Europe's finest golfers against the cream of the USA. Mix in a few Aussies and Kiwis, blend with a Thai or three and you have a field of the world's greatest golfers! The event is delicately poised with 3 victories each to Europe and USA and 1 draw. Last year's event was a real thriller with Europe fighting for a "come from behind" draw in the last match. The bus will leave The Avenue shopping centre on Second Road at 9am prompt. Tee times are from 10.30 onwards. The bus will return to The Avenue when everyone has finished play, taken a shower and a drink. This year’s event will take place at Burapha over C and D courses. With groups teeing off at C1 and D1.Each group will play 2 matches with a point available for each match. Course C will be played as a Texas Scramble/Ambrose. Both players in the team hit their drives and select which drive will be used. Thereafter, the players each hit a shot from the position of the best-placed ball until the team has holed out. The second ball should be placed within one scorecard length of the selected ball and surfaces cannot be changed. The handicap allowance will be 1/4 the combined handicap of the 2 players in the team. Strokes will be according to the stroke index of the hole. So, a team comprising an 18 and a 28 handicapper will receive 11.5 (12) strokes and a team with a 14 and an 18 will receive 8 strokes. In this case, the first team will receive 4 strokes for 18 holes and this will be reduced to 2 strokes for course C to be taken on the 2 holes with the lowest stroke index on course C. To add a bit of spice, the team will be required to select a minimum of 3 drives for each partner on the 9 holes. The holes will be played as straight match play and the match will be determined as a win (1 point) or a half (1/2 point) for the 9 holes. Course D will be played as four ball better ball. Each player in the team plays every shot at the hole and the best net score for the hole wins that hole. The handicaps for the four balls will be full handicap allowance stroking off the lowest handicap player. So, in the above example, the 14 handicapper will play off scratch, his partner will get 4 strokes and the players in the other team will get 4 and 14 strokes respectively for 18 holes. The number of strokes received will then be halved for the 9 holes that are being played. Strokes will be allowed according to the SI off the holes on course D. The four balls will also be match play with the lowest net winning the hole and the match determined as a win or a half. There will be prizes for winning 2 balls as well as long dive and near pin. The RideHer Cup presentation party will take place at 8.30 pm in the FLB Bar on 4th November. There will be a hot food buffet on offer and then we will have the presentation around 9.30 pm. Friday November 6th – Misty’s Open at Eastern Star. The Misty’s Open is an individual stabelford event. Transport will leave The Avenue shopping centre on Second Road at 9.00 am prompt. Players will tee off as 4 balls from 10.30. Transport will return to the Avenue at 1830 approx. Entry fee is 2,900 baht per player – payable either at FLB on Sunday or at the Solar Golf Offices in advance. Your entry fee includes green fee, buggy share, caddy fee, transport, polo shirt and the party with food. The party will start at Club Misty’s a Go-go on Soi 15 at 8.30 pm with a buffet followed by the announcement of the winners and prize giving. There will be a winner’s trophy plus long drive and near pin. This will be a private party on the upper level of Misty’s. Should be lots of fun! Sunday November 8th to Tuesday November 10th – Trip to Soi Dao Highlands Our road trip this year will be to Soi Dao Highlands – a golf resort in near to the Cambodian border. This is a real gem of a golf course in hillside terrain. The resort is 3 star standard with clean and comfortable rooms. There is not much to do at night so this is very much a golfers’ break! If there are non-playing companions we can arrange an excursion on the Monday. We will depart Pattaya on Sunday morning at 9.00 am and return on Tuesday 10th at around 6.00 pm. Our package includes transport, accommodation, breakfast and 3 rounds of golf including caddy fees. Carts, if required, are extra. The prices for these packages are: • Golfer sharing twin room 7,100 baht • Golfer in single room 8,700 baht • Non golfer sharing room 3,900 baht Thursday 12th November – Babydolls Texas Scramble. The second annual Babydolls Texas Scramble will take place at Siam Plantation Golf Club on Thursday 12th November. Siam Plantation is Pattaya’s premier golf course—host of the 2009 Honda LPGA. The Babydolls Scramble is open to teams of 4 players. You can sign up as a team of 4 or individually. We will draw teams on the day. Transport will leave The Avenue on Second Road at 0900. First tee time is 10.30 and we will return to Pattaya at 5.30 pm approx. The party at Babydolls with fun, food and Ricky’s legendary party games will start at 8.30 pm. The entry fee of 3,700 baht per player includes green fee, buggy, caddy fee, transport, polo shirt, winners’ trophy and party with food. Entries and handicaps We are happy to accept entries from golfers of all abilities as long as you have some experience of playing on a full 18 hole golf course. You can enter the events by: 1. Sending an email to sales@solargolf.co.uk with your name, hotel and a contact telephone number in Thailand. 2. Calling in to our office on Pratamnuk Hill. We are generally open during normal working hours 10.00 to 18.00 Mon to Sat. Payment can either be made at our office or at the 1st November registration evening. The following will be accepted as proof of handicap: 1. Club handicap certificate or letter from secretary/professional 2. Online handicap listing from a recognised authority e.g. Pattaya Sports Club or Thaigolfer.com Any player who cannot provide proof of handicap will be allocated a handicap by the committee. Handicap limits are 28 for men and 36 for lady golfers. -

Mitch Proof of handicap is required if you are not on the PSC or Thail Golfer database. Here are some tips including dress code for first time golfers in Thailand. Caddies are Thailand’s secret weapon for making golf here a unique experience. They will help you with club selection, assist with the line and speed of your putts and even make you laugh off the occasional bad shot! After your round, your caddy will drop your clubs at our transport and then you will have time for a shower and a drink before returning to Pattaya. Your golf package includes green fee, caddy fee, buggy/share and transport. Caddy tips are extra – we recommend a minimum of 300 baht and usually more for a good caddy. • Dress code is polo shirts with a collar and sleeves. Vests and full button shirts are not acceptable. Tailored shorts or long trousers are fine with sports socks. • Shoes should be soft spikes or trainers • Wear a hat and use a high SPF sun block. You will burn easily even on cloudy days. • Drink plenty of water. There are drink stations about every 5 holes. -
