Gas station scam -- pay attention
dthomasss replied to MM's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
They also have a scam for motorcycles if you are a farang. It happened to me and then I observed for 10 minutes and it was repeated twice more (only with farangs). You tell them you want 100 baht. They push a button and give you 100 baht, but if you pay attention you notice you only get 2.2 liters, so essentially they are charging you 45 baht per liter instead of 34-35 which is the current price for gasohol 91...They are able to quickly change the cost per liter and then change it back again. Stick with PTT stations!- 35 replies

I went to Mityon and they did it for me. Pick it up in two weeks. Still thinking about adding 2nd class insurance for theft, but have to find an agent.
-
Sadly I am only in Pattaya Tuesday through Friday every week...

It is time to renew my road tax/insurance. Are there places in town that can do it or do I have to go out to the land transport office?

Did you move?

I am looking for unfurnished. Can you send me details? Thanks

I did receive an email from Tony. It was not what I had hoped for, but in fairness I do want to acknowledge that he replied. There was no offer of the 5,900 promotion so I will keep trying at California Wow to see if I can get the 9,000 lifetime many people have told me they have.
-
I suppose it is possible if I went back to California Wow three or four times the offer would keep changing, but I am thinking about going into the Bangkok club and seeing if I can get the 9,000 baht membership that some people have told me about.
-
I sent an email yesterday morning - no response. I called the number and that just got me staff and when I asked how I can speak with Tony she said, "He not here," and hung up! I am not grousing, I am sharing experience and hoping for some assistance. That is what forums are all about. By the way, your claim that Tony always gets back with an offer to work things out. May I ask what you base that on. I have not read or heard a single positive comment about the man other than he is wealthy.

It seems I have two horrible choices - California Wow, where I have to pay 14,900 for a year and hope I can get on aerobic equipment without waiting forever in line (I just want the gym for losing weight and building cardio). or Tonys for 7,999 with totally rude and unhelpful staff along with no access when I am in Bangkok. What a great choice!

Unfortunately the location is a bit out of the way for me and I don't need any excuses not to go!

Tony's Fitness on Third road across from the Food Court

I saw big signs outside Tony's Fitness offering promotion of one-year membership for 5,9999 baht yesterday, so I went it to join as I need to drop some kilos. Inside there was nobody at the member desk to help. I was told to wait. After 10 minutes a woman came over and asked what I wanted. I told her I wanted to see the facilities and join for one year. She did not say one word to me (I can speak Thai fairly well). Not even a hello, nothing! She just handed me a piece of paper to fill out - no information about the club or anything. I filled it out and handed it to her. Again she did not say one word to me. She wrote something down in a book and then looked up at me and said, "7,999 baht." That was it, not another word. I told her that I thought there was a promotion. She said, "Are you member now?" I said that I wasn't, and she said, "Then you pay 7,999 baht." The rudeness and lack of any assistance was enough to make me just walk out. This is no way to treat potential customers, especially in these economic times. Unfortunately, California Wow is still double the price so Tony's may get my money after all, but what a lousy way to start.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of all the english speaking channels on Sophon or Banglamung Cable? Am moving soon and don't want to get Truevisions.

Looking for a house to rent...

You better email me right away! You just vanished and have not seen you on line. What gives???? -
It is indeed pronounced Kweh (as though you were saying the word when without the n at the end). If you say River Kwai you are actually saying the Buffalo River, which does not exist... So in Kanchanburi there is Saphan Kweh (the bridge over the river) while in Bangkok there is Saphan Kwai (Buffalo Bridge which is a stop on the BTS)

The Felix is a great place to stay. I was just there last weekend! Make sure you get a riverview room. Extra 200 baht but your balcony sits overlooking the Kwai and it is beautiful. There are some great tours, including the Tiger monastery where you can pet the pussies (not to be confused with Soi 6 in Pattaya). Also there is an all-day tour which includes Elephant ride, trip to Erawan Falls (the seventh level is breathtaking), river raft ride and train back to town. Don't book tours through the hotel or you will pay triple what you can get in town. I used B.T. Travel and they were great. Whatever you do dont stay at the River Kwai Hotel in town. It is decent but has no charm and you miss the whole purpose of being in Kanchanaburi. If I didn't have to work in Bangkok I would move to Kanchanaburi in a heartbeat...

All these figures are a bit absurd... I suppose it would work if you never purchased toilet paper, toothpaste, soap, razor blades etc etc.. or if you never had to buy any medication, or never had to go to the doctor, or never had to go the dentist, or never traveled anywhere, or never went to the movies, or never bought a book, or never bought clothes or shoes, etc etc ad nauseum.. I have lived in LOS for 4 years and have a modest but decent lifetsyle on approximately 4x the original figure posted. Of course it is possible to exist on 20,000. You can exist on 10,000 if you live a totally thai-style life, but what is the point in doing that? Just to be able to say you live in Thailand but can't enjoy the original reasons for wanting to live here in the first place? I am not refering to drinking and whoring, but rather to living a more worry-free life. Try doing that on 20,000 a month!

The place SHE is staying at has no tv...

Need a small tv in Pattaya for 2 months. Any suggestions? Don't really want to spend 5,000 for such a short time

I have stayed many times at Sandy Spring but the rooms are getting a bit worn. How does Areca Lodge compare? Is there are any difference at Areca between Standard Room and Deluxe Seaview other than the view?
-
I wonder how the standard room there compares to standard room at Dynasty Inn...
