  1. You could like like a king in the USA on 4k USD a month. I think the average Thai makes 10k Baht a month and still has money left over to support their family. It really does come down to lifestyle and the two biggest drags on income are girls and beer, though for most Thailand wouldn't be worth living in without those.
  2. I first checked China Airlines then did an across the board check on Travelocity where I came up with the average of 1400, CA included. This was for any time period, immediate or future. I will pay that if I must but I'm going to hold out a few months for a deal, this is for a December trip.
  3. For about a year now I've been averaging 1000 for flights from San Francisco to Thailand, now I'm seeing them averaging 1400 if I wish to book for any flights going forward. Anyone seeing different?
  4. I have a Bachelor of English degree, is B.ed a a Bachelor of Education. Also I can read, write and speak Thai at an intermediate level. I had no idea those kind of salaries were available for teaching. Is this teaching English or something else? To the OP, It seems like you have a pretty good head start if you already own a house. If you're earning a decent salary I would just stay where you are for another 7 or so years and then try to make your way in LOS. I realize it's not as satisfying as just going there now but it also isn't like you have to wait til you're half dead. You'd have eno
  5. So there's been no changes to the visa run loop? Pre-coup there was a lot of commotion this was going to change by years end. Can you still do endless visa run's or is there some kind of 90 day in, 90 day out rule?
  6. Singapore has to be the safest bet to invest in a career. It's not the most exciting place but as far as economic stability and prosperity it's clearly #1. It's true the Cost of living is higher but if you lived a low key life and saved your fun for Thailand you'd come out ahead.
  7. Every few weeks I try to convince myself Thailand has finally taken a turn for the worse and I need to think of a new place to go. I do this because right now I can't live in Thailand so it's a type of sour grapes. However even with things truly having taken a turn for the worse with the political climate, investment climate and terrorist climate. It still is the best SEA has to offer. I like Thailand for being a little rough around the edges and a little wild but sometimes that roughness wears us down and we long for some of the comforts of home. I don't think there is a perfect balance of we
  8. Will someone give the POS U$D some Viagra? POS U$D
  9. You want Thai Kedmanee. the (non shift-lock) doesn't allow you to do the Alt-Shift switch, and Thai Pattachote is some strange non standard layout.
  10. It's done in regional options, language tab you have to add scripts for Far east languages by checking the box. Then click detail and also add Thai as an additional language choice. If you've done it successfully you'll see a little EN in the lower right corner which can be switched by either clicking on it, or hitting ALT+SHIFT to toggle between EN and TH which is Thai.
  11. I agree that this slump began a year ago, but I don't agree it will be over soon, I could see a multi year housing slump in many markets, as a rising tide lifts all boats even those which should be resting on the ocean floor. I think this housing bubble is unprecedented in American history so it's correction may be as well. Here is the original article. Dollar Drop
  12. I just read an article that attributed the drop to the recent housing slump which many feel will become a crash. Because of this consumers will have less to spend and the economy will slow. Seems like we've been fighting off slipping into a recession for many years now.
  13. Actually I've heard that too. Damn what the hell do I know I just want the USD to go up!
  14. Before the board change I just had to sign in once and would stay signed in if i checked the box. Now I have to sign in every time.
  15. While I personally agree with you all I can say is I didn't vote for him and won't vote for any of his cronies. The recent elections point to America wising up to his game. I've found it somewhat pointless to debate Democrats and Repubs with people everyone seems to see what they want. I only stand by what I think and that's that he and his ilk are terrible for America, just listening to the changed perceptions of Americans when I travel is reason enough to get rid of him. The President is supposed to put America in a good light, not that of a bully. Hope not! I have heard
  16. We periodically see posts that Pattaya or Thailand is changing for the worse, less fun, less P4P, westernization. There may be some truth to those things but I still think Thailand is distinctly Thai and every appealing. The only thing I'm worried about is the tanking USD, it just keeps falling and falling with no end in sight. It hasn't fallen enough to make me change my plans or the amount I can do during my trip but I wonder when if ever we'll see 40+ Baht to the dollar again. What if it falls another 12% in the coming year? Then I will be hurting and will have to cut back on the fun. I've
  17. I just thought of this last night. Say you had an airline rewards credit card. For every dollar you spend you get 1 mile. Now why not just take a cash advance to the cards limit and then pay it off the next day. Say the limit was $10,000. If you did this ten times in a few weeks, you'd quickly have 100,000 miles. Is this possible? Is it legal? I was also thinking if cash advances don't earn you miles, just paypal yourself your credit card limit then pay of the card as soon as you receive it. Is there any reason this wouldn't work? It seems like a strangely simple way to get that business clas
  18. I would love this to be true but I doubt it will be. The US economy is likely to weaken not strengthen, given the implosion of the housing market and nothing else to really prop it up anymore. The Thai economy is likely to strengthen as is the whole of Asia relative to the USA as they gain investment interest. Check out the Thai fund TTF, since the coup it's been rising and rising, smart money is pouring into Thailand and any dumb shit you see on O'Reily or about the US imposing sanctions is pure smokescreen. There were historic precedents not likely to be repeated in our lifetimes that caused
  19. If price is no object I'd go with Vaio. They always seem to be the best quality and have extra features.
  20. Unfortunately this is true. Unless you have a hi so girl, a girl with her own house, and a good career in Thailand the assumption from most Western nations is the girl will do a runner and not come back. Particularly with BG's once they figure out they can make 10 times as much doing the same job here.
  21. Just renewed mine, I'll think about this again in ten years.
  22. MrStein, What you post is very interesting, I encourage you to post more, particularly about how to profit off a real estate decline.
  23. Is this a typo suddenly this number gained 2 digits? 01 123 4567 08 1123 4567
  24. Why don't you hop on a plane and take the 1.5 hour flight to BKK? IF I lived in Singapore I think I'd do that every weekend.
