Just booked a May 17th flight using United mileage. The choices I had were very limited as to dates but mostly they were the same routes as a paid ticket. I have gotten 3 United credit cards that gave me a total of 55k free miles. Last trip I flew United using a consolidator - Thaifly. I had used them once before with no problems. Their price on United was a $500 savings over what United was asking. It was about $1100 when United prices were around $1600. I like flying United because of the economy plus extra legroom and I can reserve my seat as soon as I buy the ticket.

I had knee surgery two weeks ago to repair a meniscus tear. I change doctors at the last minute because I got a recommendation from a nurse who worked with knee surgery to get a sports medicine surgeon. She said that they do repairs differently (better) than regular surgeons who mostly do knee replacements. The surgeon said he polished the back of the kneecap because of arthritis. I was able to walk immediately. Was told to not do much for a couple of days. In 10 days I was able to exercise the leg and now 2 weeks after surgery, I can do pretty much anything. I got it done in the USA because I have insurance here. Now I am ready to head back to LOS in three weeks.

Don't know about the British pound, but financial analysts in the USA predict the value of the dollar will be going back up.

Carrying your clubs to Thailand may not cost as much as you think. If you have only one other bag, it may be free. United has just started charging $25 for a second bag, unless you are Premier status. It hasn't cost me anything to carry my clubs so far. I enjoyed playing golf with Bob and the boys and Mini last trip.

Just booked a flight from Richmond, VA to BKK with Thaifly. Their price was $1130. United's price was $1676. I wanted to fly United because I joined their Economy plus access program. Paid $360 for Economy plus seats from one year when booking economy. You get to reserve your seat as soon as you make your reservation. I like the extra room in Economy Plus, especially for the 13 hour leg. I was a little concerned about getting stuck in a small middle seat on another airline. If you want to fly another airline, Delta has a flight for $1246, so it is not that big a savings on them, but if you want to fly United to get the frequent flyer miles or Economy plus or just like their routes, it is a great savings. I used Thaifly once before a couple of years ago, but the price difference since then hasn't been much until now. I still get the frequent flyer miles, but the ticket has restrictions on cancellations and changes.

Prices are dropping on United. A couple of weeks ago cheapest from my city was $1800. Now I see flights later in August for $1100. I am flying on frequent flyer miles. Will arrive August 15th. Hound
