Looking for a good Tailor

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here have any good tailors to recommend ? I'm looking for something in the 6000-10000 bhat per suit kind of places not the 2 suits for 4000 bhat places that are everywhere. I'm looking for a sharp business/elegant dinner suit.

This could be in Bangkok or Pattaya.

Much thanks in advance.

I used Classic Tailor (Pattaya) in January of this year. The quality they offer here is very good. There are cheaper deals to be had in Pattaya but when you compare the quality of materials you will get what you pay for. I purchased 3 shirts, cashmere sportcoat, wool gaberdene pants along with 3 ties for $US265. I could not be more pleased and I will return to this shop. Remember to get a good fitting suit you will need to return to the shop a minimum of two times for measurements. Any tailor who states only one measurement will IMHO offer a suit of less quality. Of course the price will reflect this also.

They are located just off of 2nd Road. Sorry I do not know exact address just where it is located by sight.

Do a search on tailors and you will see many other comments.

I got 2 business suits in March and have had excellent wear out of them.

I'm a big person so usually off the peg suits look like shit on me and I tend to split the arse of the pants after a while - not good

I shopped around and eventually settled on the small shop at beech road end of soi 7 beside the gogo...very small unit about 3 metres by 6 ru by an indian guy with very good english and very plesant to talk to.

he did the measurements and showed me various catalogues to pick whatever style I liked then showed me material samples to choose the cloth type etc... very professional further fitting in 1 - 2 days and final fitting within 4 days

he wanted to do me a deal on tailored jeans for £ 10 a pair not sure about vfm

but the suits and stuff was excellent value

got 2 jackets and 4 pairs of trousers (pants) and 4 tailored shirts (normal cotton material) plus 2 silf ties and the suit bags etc plus a large leather belt for 14K

previously I got an off the peg suit for a collegues wedding in Northern Ireland just jacket and trousers with no alterations cost me £ 160 around 12K

the siuts were all well cut and sewed, all double stitched lined with proper pockets etc and I have worn them daily for the last 5 months with no problems, light easy to keep clean and very stylish compared to my usual rags

I would recommend this guy anytime in fact I'll be paying hima vist within ther month to get two more suits and a dozen or so shirts - this time I will have room in my case

There is a very good tailor inside Ambassador Hotel in Bangkok called "Peter's Clothiers", it is located near one of the entrances. If you are walking into the hotel from the shopping plaza area it is the first shop on the right. About 3 1/2 years ago I had 3 nice suits custom fitted and they are still very nice, great quality. About 3 years ago I had 2 silk shirts and 2 black dress pants custom fitted, I still wear those pants everyday at work, they are made very well.

There are a few tailors in Pattaya at the start of walking street just past the open air bars near the water, I bought some silk shirts there past April, I didn't have them custom fitted, they were already made and I am very happy with them. That tailor is called "Thai Silk Shop by Apple" that is what the tag say's anyway.

There are alot of tailors all over Pattaya, alot of them located along beach road usually between Mikes Plaza shopping and about soi Yamoto, I'm sure there are more but beach road is where most of them seem to be, when you are walking down beach road you will be approached by men trying to sell you custom fitted suites.

good luck

cheers

My all time favourite - Majestic Tailors in bangkok - belongs to Majestic Suites. Never had reason to complain, good prices and good quality of work - 2 or 3 fittings - good materials to choose from and all designs: http://www.majestictailors.com/

cheers

dcdc,

you have to keep an eye on the DETAIL of the suit,

I bought my suit on my first visit to Pattaya in 2001,

Thought I’d gotten a real bargain £64 for an Armani

Suit, but I didn’t pay a lot of attention to the detail,

I.e.; buttonhole on lapel, (no where to put the flower

at a wedding), the finish on the cuffs was bad

(Button just sewn on to it, no cuff vent!),

and the waistband on the trousers was cheap metal hook type

no buttons.

I’ve only worn it 3 times since I got back from my 2001 trip because of this,

1 wedding, 1 christening and a night out, the missing details play on

my mind and I feel self-consciouswearing it.

So please don’t be like me, and pay attention to the details.
