Korean Air Lines

Recommended Posts

Korean Air was good in my experience when I choose them early this year. The flight from ORD-ICN was the longest flight I've been on. But the service they provide was great IMO. Also the flight attendants are nice. :D

The Hollywood movies they show are dubbed and subtitled in Korean, and of couse they show Korean movies too. So if you are on a long haul, bring some something to entertain yourself.

This might be a bit more info then you needed. I'm sure others here can provide a good answer too.

Flew KAL on my return to US in April. BKK to Inchon then to Atlanta.

Found it to be very comfortable and I thought the food was good for airline chow.

That Inchon airport is nice as well.

I try to do all my flights to earn Delta skymiles and KAL is a Delta partner.

I have flown KE many times before, but only twice to/from BKK. I like KE. The planes are not old and the service is great. I only like KE, not love. The bad thing is their flights and layovers to/from the US are absolutely ridiculous. I try to spend as much time in the LOS as I can and 12 hour layovers at Incheon and 2AM departures from BKK are not worthwhile. Where are you at in the States?

i live in arizona. so ill be flying out of lax. i search orbitz and on of the options was KE. if i remember right it had me leaving lax at 1100 and arriving in bkk at 2330 with a 2 hour layover in inchon. another option was JAL. ive heard a few nicerthing about them. last time i came i flew with china air. it was ok but i wasn't impressed. also there wasn't anything to do in tiawan.

I think you'll like KE. When I first started coming to LOS. 10 yrs ago I flew Korean Air the first couple years, and accumulated quite a little bank of miles, and at that time you had to use them up and you couldn't carry them over from year to year.

They have changed their policy, due to competition I suppose, and now they're good "forever", at least for now. I quit for the very reason stated before.....the rediculously long layovers in Seoul. Haven't used since they go to Inchon. I rather liked the airport in Seoul cause they had some pretty good "duty free" shops. And I've still got 25K (plus) miles, maybe enough for half a round trip upgrade. I'll have to check it out.

The last trip I took, (in June this yr.) I flew Japan Air, and it was just about as good as it gets. From LAX to Japan I had one of the newer planes with the tv on the back of the seat in front of you, and, in addition to the three or four movies, and short subjects availalble, they had a selection of video games, such as solitaire, poker, etc.....and quite a variety of music on the sound system. It was a 747.....from Japan to Bkk, tho, it was back to the usual, on one of the older planes. The service was very good, the food was betteer than average, and they had a good selection of beer on board.....including Singha. All in all I'd say you won't be disappointed with JAL Good luck.....chok dee...etc.....Ernie

The food and flight attendants are okay, you can get a variety of drinks, and if you choose your flight carefully you can avoid a long layover. I have never spent more than three hours at Seoul.

But you should be aware that last year they stopped preassigning seats from LAX. If you are one of those who like preassigned aisle or window seats you are out of luck (unless they have changed their policy since then, in which case please post it). I quit flying them because of this, and even a $150 cheaper fare will not attract me to them.

Also, on the cheaper tickets that most of us buy they will not give full mileage.

I guess you're flying from PHX, so you'll probably send up at LAX, SFO, or SEA. In that case, I'd spend the same amount of money and go with EVA to BKK in Evergreen Deluxe. The best prices are available on their website. There are 2 specials right now. One is for business class (LAX-BKK-LAX for under $2,000 all-in) and the other is Evergreen Deluxe (same route for under $900 all-in).

I like EVA from LAX because of their departure times. I can work my shift, jump in the car and drive to the airport, get checked in by 11pm for the 1am flight. Coming back, BKK-LAX, I take the 5pm flight out of BKK and arrive in LAX around 8pm. If you're going to PHX, you can take the 1pm flight from BKK and get into LAX around 4pm. Any flight home on EVA is way better than KE, UAL, or AAL.
