Singapore Air Newark to Changi to BKK

Recommended Posts

That is correct. I have seen the TG press release but can't recall the exact numbers. I think SQ's A345s have 150 seats and TG's A345s will have 180 seats.

SQ's 345 has about 190 seats. TG's will have 230 seats.

I knew someone would know it. I just knew they were a heck of a lot less than they could cram in there.

You hear anything about SQ wanting to ditch their A345s for the B772LR? I've just heard SQ isn't happy with the performance of the A345 and it's not meeting what Airbus profered.

My return in Feb is Spore to Newark. Is exeutive economy the same as economy? Any cheap seats with extra legroom such as a bulkhead? Any ideas to score a seat that will have a vacancy next to it?

The SQ A345s have 2 classes, Raffles (Business) and Executive Economy (Premium Economy). The Premium Economy has 37" pitch and 20" wide seats; it also looks like a 2-3-2 config. Not too shabby for a long flight. Looking at their seating charts and a website that says where the good seats are, I offer the following:

Rows 31/32/33 is sort of a mini-cabin because of the walls. Row 31 (first row in PE) is a bulkhead with decent legroom but the lavs are to the front. There is no under seat storage. Row 32 is nice. Row 33 has limited recline because of the wall behind and abuts more lavs.

Row 34 has good legroom as well but lavs to the front.

Row 46 D/G has 3 seats to the front giving you more shoulder room, but the tray tables are in the armrests and are locked down (meaning if you have these seats to yourself, you can't put up the middle for one huge seat).

Row 47 (last row) has limited recline due to walls behind and the galley and passenger "long haul social area" are behind the wall. Could be a little noisy.

As far as vacancies, I've heard the SQ A345s to EWR and LAX are almost always 100% full.

TG is working on several non-stops to/from the US and BKK. I have a partial list but no announced start dates.

I have seen:

LAX

SFO

ORD

NYC (probably EWR)

I'll have to update this when I see more. These are the routes that their A345s will fly (that's Airbus 340-500) when they get them in 2005/2006.

Update: Deleted Seattle and Houston from a list of possibles. TG isn't interested in these routes. They will add service to the others listed above. It seems TG is trying to get these routes spun up in time for the opening of the new BKK airport (late 2005).

Also, for those in Europe, TG plans on switching from the 747 to the A346 and A380. Looks like only LHR will get the double-decker (night flight out of BKK, A346 for the day flight). But it's good to see them spend some money to update their aircraft, interiors, and IFE.

Well, seems TG has updated their schedule (thru 1 May 2005) and has for sale non-stop flights BKK-NYC-BKK using their new A345s. I don't remember the times, but I believe BKK-NYC is 0100-0630 (leave after midnight, arrive early AM) and NYC-BKK is 1130-1630 (leave late morning, arrive afternoon).

Word is the Chicago (ORD) non-stops will begin late summer or early fall (depends when TG get their A345s and crews up to speed). Note of caution: just because they're selling the tickets doesn't mean they'll be ready.

Also, it appears they will NOT be flying non-stops to/from LAX due to several reasons. Bummer for me, but I guess I'll have to stick EVA Air outta LAX. I'm not too disappointed as EVA Air is a decent airline and will be better with the B773ER.
