Friday on my mind

Recommended Posts

My son has an OI! version of the 60's song, Friday on My Mind. I know the song word for word, but for the life of me can't remember who did the origional.

Was it a name like The Rascals or something ?

I'm sure some other Old Timer has a better memory than me. 1luv

"Monday mornin' ain't so bad.

I know of nothin' else that bugs me.

Come in Tuesday I feel better,

even my old man looks good. "

Etc etc etc.

In Australia, hit number one November 1966.

Recorded by "The Easybeats."

Written by 2 of the band members, Harry Vanda and George Young.

Considered one of the all time most popular Australian songs.

cheers,

chico,howllllllll :D

Thanks Chico, you are a star.

I think my son gets a bit worried when I sing along to some of his songs. :D

This was one caught the mind of all teenagers "working for the Rich Man !!"

Hey, I'll change that tune some day- took me 40 years, but now it's happened. :D

If I remember right, it was the first Australian song to reach #1 on the UK charts.

Lead singer was Stevie Wright, who is still alive but pretty much fucked up after spending most of the '70s a junkie.

Harry Vanda and George Young were migrants who met at a hostel in Adelaide, Vanda was Dutch, Young a brit. A lot of Aussie bands came out of that migration system. Including ACDC, with George Young's little brother Angus on guitar. When Bon Scott died, Stevie Wright was the likely replacement, but he was too fucked up for the band to take him on.

God, I'm getting old....

Just for Entwhistle's bass and Moon's drumming. Total wanker lyrics, but it works.

I am 35, but my older brother had a magic collection....

Brucie.

Happy jack wasn’t old, but he was a man

He lived in the sand at the isle of man

The kids would all sing, he would take the wrong key

So they rode on his head on their furry donkey

The kids couldn’t hurt jack

They tried and tried and tried

They dropped things on his back

And lied and lied and lied and lied and lied

But they couldn’t stop jack, or the waters lapping

And they couldn’t prevent jack from feeling happy

But they couldn’t stop jack, or the waters lapping

And they couldn’t prevent jack from feeling happy

The kids couldn’t hurt jack

They tried and tried and tried

They dropped things on his back

And lied and lied and lied and lied and lied

But they couldn’t stop jack, or the waters lapping

And they couldn’t prevent jack from feeling happy

(I saw ya!)

Another Who song "My Generation " caught the feelings of the youngsters just right.

"Why don't you all ffffffff-ade away ?"

" And don't try to dig what we all say !"

" Things they do just leave me cold, I hope I die before I get old "

Well, that hope came true for half the group. You just knew, Moonie was not gona make old bones. :D
