High speed internet - Again!

Recommended Posts

Hi, this is becoming a joke considering LoS is supposed to be 'with it'. Same problem but with updated dismay, though my previous quest did meet with a heap of helpful info, and I'm still dependent on my monthly 300-bt AsiaAccess pack.

ToT: Hopeless.

Cat: No can do VT2A.

True: Can, can't, then can maybe...nobody seems to know, though it sounds positive, considering. Only problem is it's very expensive indeed - possibly due to monopoly if they can come across.

TT&T: On my last return from UK the lobby gals at VT2A collared me to say that yes, TT&T has finally sent them promo bumf concerning a new allocation. So off I go with every bit of paper they might need, only, TT&T appear to know nothing about that. Seems they can accommodate VT2B, but not VT2A, but they hope/expect to be able to do so 'maybe this year'.

Is there anyone in VT2A actually endowed with a higher speed than 56?

I've just experienced the nightmare of the century getting internet access in LOS. Basically if you don't have a land phone line and a work permit, it's pretty hard but not impossible. First I went to IT city in the Tuk.com building on South Pattaya Road to inquire about the Air Card. It plugs into my laptop and wherever I go, the connection comes with me, no phone required.

However, getting the card and having service are too different stories. In the western world, one could order a card, pay the fee either at the shop or online or over the phone with a credit card and away you go. But in Thailand, it was just horrible with red tape combined with unilingual people who were of little help nor had the desire to be helpful.

I was sent to Carrefour, Big C, Lotus, and Tuk.com to finally find out that I cannot get service without a Thai ID card! Aaaargh!

So I pursuaded my TG to register for me and I paid her for a full year of internet service which she paid in full on her credit card.

On the bright side, I now have the net at home albeit slow.

Aircard from IT city: 10,000B

Monthly fee: 1,200B

Smile while surfing at home overlooking Jomtien Beach: Priceless .
