Foreign nationals working in Thailand

Recommended Posts

I realize that for either a local hire or ex-pat assignment there are probably quite a few legal hoops for a non-Thai to jump through to work in Thailand, i.e.- special work visas, etc. Are there any members with regular full-time jobs in Thailand? And by that I don't mean bar and/or gogo owners/managers :D ; I'm referring to the more "mainstream" world of corporate employment. If so, how did you swing it? I'm not old enough -- or rich enough -- to retire yet -- but would leave the Golden State of California in a second if I could land a decent job in Thailand. Just not sure how, or if it's even possible. :nod

The sage counsel of this august group will be greatly appreciated.

I think you would be greatly disappointed at the salary levels offered for local hire jobs in Thailand. The way to go is to have a western company transfer you out to Thailand on your western salary plus all the usual expat benefits.

This is usually for middle / senior management and upwards although some engineering and sales positions may be available at lower managerial levels.

The bonus of expat work is that you are usually paid a hardship allowance for working outside of your home country.

Personally, I would not like to work here as an expat. I just don't think I could get the job done.

"i work it every time i'm there, but i still have to pay the bar fine!!"

but seriously

if you want "farang" type wages you would need to find a INC that has a branch in thailand. have a friend who worked in PA for a packaging company that had a can plant in bkk and was able to transfer in a corprate liasion postion, so as not to take away a job from thai national.
