Hi Guys.

Can anyone whare their experiences regarding your adls connections in Pattaya?

I have been doing some research, trying to figure out who is the best.called up csloxinfo and JI-net, asked some questions , got SOME answers but cannot make up my mind since frankly cant be 100% sure I was on the same topic with whoever I was talking to.

Ji-net had been getting good reviews on other forums, but when I called them they said that their regular package limits surfing to 40% international and 60%local, you have to pay double for unlimited access.

Cs also had been reviewed decently but after 30 minutes of phone conversation adn assuance that they would get back to me by email with written answers to my questions, there has been no reply, and I cant even remeber what I discussed with them, it was so difficult to understand them.

JI-nets email reply wasnt much better, I asked for details on he suitable packages we outlined on the phone, got a 2 page pdf order form (90% in thai) for 1 of the 4-5 options we discussed. Now I was half expecting this since I have gone through the same process in Bkk a few times before in the past few years and all y expectations were confirmed.

I live in bkk, and I am set up here regarding my adsl, but not sure what to do with pattaya.

If anyone can give me info on their experiences, what isp, what cost , hows is the service and what is your speed, I would very much appreciate it and I am sure it would be helpful to many others as well.

Thanks,

Sami

Hi sunnyvalentine

thanks for the reply.

I just emailed cs and ji-net again, got even a reply back from cs this time, unfortunately it had very little to do with what I was asking...

I ak quite familiar withthe service, I have lived here (bklk) for 8 years and find that forums such as this are absolutely crucial, if you dont want to get too stresses out.(which will happen anyway)

I believe that since you joined Ji-net earlier you terms might be different from what they are offering me right now.

I am a bit worried about the connection getting lost daily as I am building a VPN between bkk and pattaya and that is why I am looking into this now. However despite their almost destructive customer service Ji-net still looks like their are on top of my list, with CS coming a close second in this truly non exixtent "race".

When you contact any isp for info they tend to send you an order form or something similar, expecting you to decipher it (the terms they use one the brochures for one are not universal, when trying to get to know their "service" I am often puzzled) and then signup with a smile on your face.

I specifically asked CS to answer with an email with answers to my 5 questions ranging from speed, price to number of pc's I can link to share the connection, told them not to send me any pdf's etc..

I got a scanned document instead, with aboyut 50% of the info I was asking for.

Do you know about Ji-net or any/all the isp's in thailand , do they use annex A with the adsl.

I am thinking of ordering routing equipment from abroad (here there is a silly mark up of about 10000 baht on a product that is 13000 anywhere else) and there are limitations to this regard in terms of areas where they work.

sorry for anyone else interested, here are the prices for CS

CS is offering unlimited in terms of international/local surfing (ji-net now restricts it/limits it on the new accouts according to their customer service)

here a re cs's prices in brief:

HOME UPC 256, speed 256/128,price 738.3 inc VAT

DSL basic,speed 256/128, price 1059,3 inc VAT

DSL advance ,speed256/128, price 1605 inc VAT

DSL pro 2 speeds:

256/128 = 4815 inc VAT

512/256 = 8025 inc VAT

These are with ADC media (god knows what that means)

With TT&T media

DSL basic, speed 256/128,price 1059.3 inc VAT

DSL advance, speed 256/128,price 1605 inc VAT

DSL pro 3 speeds

128/64, price 2675 inc VAT

256/128 price 4815 inc VAT

512/256,price 8025 inc VAT

prices as of this afternoon.

I am left to wonder what differnces are between ADC media 256/128 connectoions (HOME UPC,DSL BASIC and DSL advance as well as the slower DSL pro) as the speeds are the same but the prices different.

(could this finally define the meaning of same same but different?!?)

sunny, I'm moving out to live in Pattaya (probably around View Talay or maybe in to Jomtien) very soon. Which phone company and ISP would you recommend? I would probably be spending anything up to 2 - 3 hours per day (sometimes less) on the internet. Broadband would be nice, if available. :chogdee2

Could you also PM me with the name and location of your bar, please?

Thanks,

I have the JI net 2600 baht package. My experience has been variable but generally OK for Thailand. Like Sunny I was having daily outages but they replaced some equipment in the exchange last month and I have not noticed any since then.

Speed is variable but the 512/256 package I have usually runs around 380/190 which is not to bad. I went through a month of never getting downloads faster than 210. After at least 20 calls to their tech support in which they blamed heavy traffic (at 3 am?) then my router and then my computer, I finally managed to figure out with TT&T that the line was configured incorrectly at the exchange. T T&T seem to have some technically competent people but JI Net staff are not very knowlegeable.

My package is definitly unlimited for international traffic and I use it excessively, downloading high definition movies at 15 gigabytes a pop. I've never had a problem with this.

Dealing on the phone or by email seems to be generally a waste of time. Their websites also seem to be out of date with wrong prices and non-existant packages. The easiest way to get the JI package is to go to the TT&T store at Carrefore and apply. You definitly need a T T&T line for the JI-net.

I am heading off shortly to discuss a faster connection with CS Loxinfo. They have just sent me some info claiming to provide a 4096/512 connection for 2400 baht a month., unlimited traffic. They do say this promotion is only for TOT lines within the ADC network. I have a TOT line as well but have no idea how far the adc network extends. I'll let you know a little later how I get on.

Thanks for the replies Pete and Sunny. I won't be downloading many videos, at least not to begin with as I'll only have a laptop until I get around to buying a PC.

I'll buy you each a beer one night next month

I visited Loxinfo yesterday with offer in hand. The girl took one look and said Bangkok only and then produced a different pricelist with a 1024/512 k line for 7,000 baht. When I suggested this was a bit excessive, she produced a new bit of badly photocopied paper with a different price list. This one was 800 baht for 512, and 1,500 baht for 1024.

Sold I said, I'll take the 1500 baht please. Plus 1,000 she says for TOT. So that's 2500 a month plus tax. OK done I say. I give her my TOT number but she's not sure if it will work so sends me off to TOT to check. Can not says TOT. Only central exchange numbers can have DSL. Apparently I'm in the South Pattaya exchange. So that's the end of that!

Having been inspired to get a faster connection I rang JI-Net when I got home to enquire about upgrading my existing account. Can not says the helpful customer service girl - Pattaya only 512 you have fastest already.

Guess I'll just have to be happy with what I've got.

Hi

looks like there is a lot of info onm the thread already.

To anyone else trying to shoode adsl service, I just talked to JI-net today , and they are offering me (and anybody else I'd guess) a package called JI-net DSL compax

at 512/256 it should be quite fastr and the price is only 2450 baht (exclude/include VAT i am not sure). (TT&T line)

This allows up to 6pc's and it is meant for small businesses. In practice should anyone want to, they can add additional PC's to their network them selves, and if they want to upgrade the adsl to the DSL Rpremium where the same 512k speed is already 15000 baht.

sounds expensive so I'd try nand keep the amount of networked

PC's below 7 :chogdee2
