Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone can tell me when the best time to purchase airline tix for a february trip would be. Also, if anyone can tell me where to get the best deal on business class tickets it would be much appreciated.....

I usually purchase my tickets about 5 months in advance. Lately I have been flying Philippines Airlines, their tickets tend to rise in price the closer you get to departure date. Also, I believe the cost to change a ticket is only $100, so that would be the most I would be out. I am planning on going back to Pattaya & AC on March 1, so I will probably buy my ticket October 1.

With the price of jet fuel going thru the roof, all the old rules may be out the window. At this time last year, I could book PHL-BKK on United for $695 return including taxes. this was for October departure. Now they want $1100-1400. That said I would wait until October-November to book.

Emil made a great point there, fares RISE and availability falls around Chinese New Year period.

This varies from year to year, not sure for 2006 but I think it is year of the Dog, January 29th.

Matters not when you buy your ticket as for the last 10 years I have purchased some where in the neighbor hood of 30 Tickets West coast USA to LOS and EVERY TIME I could have gotten a better deal had I waited B)

So to answer your question the best time to buy the ticket would be a week or two after you buy your ticket :bow :bow

The problem is more complex than when to get the best price. Sometimes the problem is of seat availability. In the past I procratinated to get a good price for my January trip, and could only get confirmed as far as Narita, or Seoul, but found the folks from those areas had booked all the seats to BKK. Had to book through Hong Kong to get a seat. A bit awkward from where I live. It gets really tight if you want to travel in late December or early January so, unless saving the money is critical to you, it might be best to book early.

I retuned to the States for a visit on Sunday. The next day I got my ticket to return in September to stay until December. Guess what? Couldn't get the dates I wanted so had to adjust a bit. Did get a ticket with Korea Airline for $1,000 flying direct to Seoul from Dulles Airport Washington, D. C. So only have to fly two legs instead of three. Can't complain. Will book my January to April trip within the next week, just to be safe.

United will give you vouchers if seat prices come down after buying a ticket. Not sure about other airlines. I always have to book early because I want to upgrade to business class and that inventory dries up fast.

I think the best deal these days is Eva Evergreen Deluxe if you want a very comfortable seat for a good price.
