taxi from the airport to bangkok?

Recommended Posts

my nephew and his girl-friend are going to thailand in 2 weeks time (there 1st time!) where is the best place to get a taxi from don muang to the asia hotel in bangkok? (ive been going to thailand for 20 odd yearrs but for the last 10 years ive been picked up by the in-laws!) so basically i cant remember where to get the taxi from! i know there are loads of taxi-touts everywhere, so i dont want them to get ripped off as soon as they get there! if i remember its easier/cheaper from the departures area? or is there a booking booth in the air-port? and lastly honest! what will it cost them? i said about 250 ish baht? cheers guys! i told them about the airport bus but they wanna get a taxi!

When they get out of customs tell them to make a left and walk toward the escalator and go up two floors to the arrival area. Step outside and grab a taxi there. Tell the driver meter and motorway. Taxi driver will think they are old BKK hands and won't try and rip them off. Price of 250 is about right.

marleyboy,

Old BKK hands wouldn't take a cab to the Asia. :D

Much quicker and more convenient to get a cab down to Mo Chit station (N8) and take the Skytrain from there. The Asia is directly connected by an elevated walkway to Ratchathewi station (N1) (7 stops down the line). The cost is 30 Baht or invest in a 1 or 3 day tourist pass at 100/280 Baht respectively. It also has the advantage of affording great views of places like Victory Monument along the line.

The Asia hotel is a bastard to get to from the airport by road (on the wrong side of the dual-carriageway) and you will likely end up going round the houses in a cab.

Old BKK hands wouldn't send NEWBIES with luggage after a looong plane ride traipsing around the Sky-Train looking for a hotel. Cab is easier. BTW Sky-Train is fast and efficient but best used another day.

Last trip when UA paid for my hotel when they couldn't fly me out on the day they were supposed to. I used Mo Chit to go to Nana Station and walked over to the Aussie bar where I got a very nice massage. I'm familiar with that stop, N1 as I walk over to Pantip Plaza from there. I've stayed in BKK a few times during the 20+ trips I've made to LOS. I might even use the subway next time I'm in town.

No word from Thai, American Express is supposed to get back to me later in the week.
