Swiss International

I used them last year. They are an excellent airline using brand new aircraft(effectively part of Lufthansa nowadays) and Zurich is a great, no-hassle transit stop. The MAN-ZUR-BKK flight is, I think, the quickest door-to-door service that you can get from from any carrier up north.

An additional bonus is that they are now part of the Star Alliance so if you are in Thai's ROP programme you can now transfer your miles over.

The MAN-ZUR leg is "cosy" on a small Embraer aircraft. Flights from MAN generally tend to fluctuate at the moment between 440 and 520 quid (a bit more for Singapore and Malaysia Airlines) so if you are happy with the flight and the price I don't see any reason not to book. Do be careful that you are not being booked on the Thai codeshare as they are using an ancient MD11 on some days to ZUR.

For the past 2 or 3 years I've been using Swiss Business, going LCY-ZUR-BKK, and I've loved it. Check-in at London City can be as little as 20 mins before departure, and with around 5 departures a day (usually an Avro RJ100), and the codeshare with Thai, you get plenty of flexibility. As Cheshire Tom says, you might want to avoid the worn-out old Thai MD-11s, but they also use worn-out old 747s quite frequently. Still like Thai though, if only for the great service on board. Come to think of it, I'd imagine the MD-11s days are numbered now they're taking delivery of A340s? Swiss A340s are very modern, and only around a year old, I think. All in all I've been very impressed with Swiss, and now the Lufthansa tie-up must make the future more secure for them. I'd say go for it.

Thanks Guys, Have booked for jan, 1800 hrs from Manchester so pure Swiss!

Nice to hear the planes are new, and Zurich is easy transit as the Transit window is only 80 Mins from arrival to Departure!

Just hope this trip is better than our last one! It cannot be any worse! lol

Cheers :P :banghead

I travelled Swiss, in July this year. Man-Zur-Bkk the flight window at Zurich was about 40 mins, and the transfer was very efficient, however they did hold the plane up to allow passengers who had been delayed on other flights to board.

To be honest, I thought the seats were uncomfortable, the squab ( the part that supports your thighs ) was too short, to get down in the seat when you wanted to sleep.

Coming back from Bkk, I got upgraded to Business Class, what a difference. I have never been "upgraded" before. Thinking about why I was upgraded, I was on my own, and was neatly dressed, no jeans or trainers, as I thought it might be cold, on the plane and also when I arrived back in Manchester, ( it was a night flight ). Have a good trip
