SANDALAY RESORT - Beach Rd & Soi 2

Recommended Posts

They have been refurbishing the Beach View Hotel located at Soi 2 and Beach Road for maybe a year now and in response to a query about its status I walked by today and had a look.

There have been a few changes.

Name is now the SANDALAY RESORT PATTAYA and I guess you know what adding the word "resort" means - PAENG MAK.

Sorry I forgot to ask but I think the pool may still be under construction and they're still working on the garden and exterior. Car park was almost empty so I think they've only opened over the past few days.

Looked at one of the front marine view rooms - all newly refurbished including new jazzy sort of furniture - bed in the middle of the room, standard size tub in bathroom, separate shower, glass dining table with 4 chairs covered in purple fabric. Room has two exposures and a great view.

Opening special discounted price is 3200 baht. This is discounted from the rack rate of 6400 baht.

Your basic room is currently 1300 baht and a somewhat larger room at 2400 and again these are the DISCOUNTED (50%) prices. I overheard an American trying to get a further discount on two of the prime rooms for one night and they wouldn't budge from 3200 baht.

All occupants are required to have proper ID but no extra charge for a second occupant in a room. They do list an extra guest fee of 1000 baht which would be more than say two people in a room - your wife's niece etc., using an extra bed.

Webside is under construction: http://sandalayresort.com/

email: www.reservation@sandalayresort.com (sic)

Search for Beach View Hotel Pattaya and you can find photos of the hotel prior to the redo. Re prices, Songkhran 2004 rooms in their former state were priced at 850, 1200 & 1500 baht.

Used to stay in Beach View, Thanks for your update. I looked at the work there in April 2005 and intend to stay again in April 2006.

What is the state of the place at the moment?

The Website is still under construction.

I will be returning with my Thai Wife [who I met in Soi 2 (where she worked!) and later brought back to England and married in 2000] and our 4 year old daughter.

Any chance you could mail me as to wether the Sandalay Resort is completed.

Thanks

Greg the Sandalay is fully open. Most of the refurb was finished in Sept and when I left 9th the workmen were just doing general tidying up and sorting some of the rubble still left in the carpark.

There were a number of mixed families (thai/farang) that were staying and the kids seemed to love the new pool area (jacuzzi in the corner). Due to the work on the beach rd it was a bit noisy even though it is set back from the beach rd. I believe that work is now finished. I stayed in the adjoining apartments for a month and there was the usual soi 2 traffic and the tour buses and noisy taiwanese/japanese and indian tour groups staying at the A one.

One of the managers took me for a tour around the Sandalay and showed off the refurb room and facilities. It looked very nice particularry for families as there seemed to be plenty of space for kids to run around and play away from the roadside. I cant remember the rates so let us know as I might stay there in Feb if the price is reasonable.

Im bored with the Sabaii Inn as it seems to be more of a hang out for groups of loud drunken young blokes these days.

p.s. there is a familymart next to the carpark entrance for all your late purchases

Thanks for that, I stayed at the Sabai Lodge up the road (opposite Sabai Inn and owned by same group) in April 2005, actually it was very nice and I got a good deal. However I love the position of "Beach View" and more handy for the One-Way and getting to the beach. The rooms used to be very spacious and as the hotel needed a refurb it was a great price.

I used to love the 100 Baht Breakfast Buffet there in the mornings sitting looking out across the road at Pattaya Bay.

Do you know what the situation is with the Breakfasts?

The website is now up and running.

Have been in contact with the hotel but prices are very high now as indicated in posts above. Tried to do a deal, but wouldn't budge below 3,500 including extra bed (extra bed = 600 [ down from 1,300] !!) for our 4 1/2 yrs. old daughter. As a "returning guest" they did come down (twice) but in the end it's just too expensive compared to the Sabai Lodge up the soi. It's the extra bed charge which annoyed me, pity as it's a nice hotel in a perfect location.

Knock on effect maybe, Sabai Lodge not dealing me as low as last year.

Their website is very colorful. It's not very informative though. No info on balconys, size of room, whether the more expensive rooms are also sea view, etc.

They did answer my email quickly. I couldn't quite decipher the response.

Looks like a nice place. It almost seems like you could sit on the balcony (if they have one) and call out to freelancers as they walk by.
