No. The only Thai aircraft with competitive business class are the new long haul A340s on the BKK - US non-stop routes.

But I would try Lufthansa, they now offer Internet Access on the FRA-BKK route - very nice indeed (the access is available in all classes by the way)

i came back from bangkok to heathrow on thai business class in january and april this year, i was dissapointed really, i used my miles to up-grade but if id have paid actual cash id have been gutted! obviously better than economy , but no way id pay to fly thai business! im going next week on elite class with eva so ill try and post what they are like !

I agree. I flew Thai 1st class out of LAX. UA business class is much better. I was very disappointed in Thai international flights. Ironically, I find Thai domestic flights to be excellent value for the $.

I am not sure about Thai, they seem to be going backwards in regards to customer comfort and general marketing.

 

Two friends who just flew Thai to manila, were informed at the airport that their luggage allowance in economy was only 15kg. This has just been implemented apparently, their ticket was also 1500 baht more expensive to PAL, and more to another airline they told me about. They had bought their ticket in PI, however had no problems on the way out.

 

Their aircraft haven't really been upgarded in ages. Most business class seats on nearly all airlines are way more superiour to Thai's.

 

For Business Class, It is hard to beat Qatar Airways or the new Emirate aircraft which have about 500-600 video's on demand.

Thai effectively has three versions of long-haul biz class on the go at the moment. The crappiest version (80s) is that which exists on the MD11 and some of the older 747s e.g. those currently serving LA. The middle version (90s) is on the later 747s e.g. those serving London. The latest version is on a couple of 747s serving Frankfurt, the A340-500 which currently serves JFK non-stop and will be scheduled into LAX and Milan over the next couple of months and the A340-600 which will serve Zurich, Auckland and a couple of secondary routes over the next few months. That's how things stand at the moment but, as all things with Thai, they are subject to change ................. often!

 

For value for money, I agree with ruskiehat that it is hard to fault Qatar but both Lufthansa's service via Munich and Swiss via Zurich are very good products at prices generally 30% lower than the likes of BA, Singapore and Thai. Etihad will also be putting its new 777ER aircraft on both its Gatwick and BKK routes from the early part of next year at very competitive prices.
