Xmas Advice for Firt Time Visitor

Hi Folks

 

I am Chris from Scotland, I have never been before and neither has anyoone I know so any help would be great.

 

I am arriving in Bangkok on the 24th December around 16.00 and heading down to Pattaya, I have a few questions which I hope some of you guys can help with.

 

 

When I arrive will it be so busy that all the great companions will have been snapped up ?

 

Will everywhere be closed on Xmas Day ?

 

I was thinking about spending my last few days in Bangkok, and have New Years eve there but I am not sure, what do you guys think ?

Thailand is a Buddhist country and Christmas is not celebrated by locals. Visitors have a good time though and efforts are made to provide seasonal fare aka make a few extra bob.

More than enough totty to go round - or through!

Bangkok more pricey than Pattaya, dirtier, more polluted, noisier but it has it's fans

Plenty to go round on christmas day mate.

 

Also every where is open and packed at christmas time and its party time all the way!!!

 

I will be staying in pattaya through out christmas/new year period, im sure bangkok is just as mad as pattaya but my choice is pattaya all the time-mad atmosphere!!

I always have xmas day in BKK & new year in pattaya ! if you want to escape xmas BKK is the place to be , everthing goes on as normal , you wouldn't guess it was 25 december thats why i like it...! on the other hand new years eve in pattaya is wild , my fifth new year on the trot in pattaya coming up & not my last i hope

Tips for arriving at BKK airport:

 

Be ready to brush off (sometimes has to be quite firmly, but polite) all the approaches you will get from taxi/limo touts in the arrivals hall.

 

There are several ATM's in the arrivals hall. (no need to change money before you go).

 

When you walk out of the automatic sliding doors of the air conditioned airport, be ready to feel like you've just walked head long into a brick wall as the heat hits you.

 

If going straight to Pattaya, may be best to book your transport in advance rather than just jumping in any old taxi. Always nice to have someone meet you when arriving in a strange country for the first time. Lots of threads about reliable drivers etc. on here + check out the "meeting cost shared" section.

 

However if you've pre-booked (virtually a necessity arriving when you are) a decent hotel, they may offer a free or reasonably priced mini bus transfer.
