Is EVA always so crazy?

Check-in at Bradley Int'l terminal works that way because of TSA/DHS requirements. Weight of your bags is an issue because airlines like to avoid injury from falling bags (main concern) during flight and overall weight of the plane. I've never had a problem with a proper carry-on, and I usually have a backpack on, too.

Have flown EVA Air in and out of Europe probably 20 times in the last 5 or 6 years, never ever had any problems.

Luggage regulations (on check in as well as cabin baggage) happen once in a while at every airport, with every airline. To me it looks like Pattaya police deciding to clamp down on beach road freelancers ....... It is a rule, so it has to be enforced once in a while.

 

It happened to me that I recently lost a Credit Card connected to a (thai Airways) Eticket purchase. Called their Ticketing Office in the morning of my departure day, they told me to contact their ground office in Don Muang, where I explained the situation, they copied some papers and (new) Creditcard, and made no further problems. I asked them what would have happened when I would not have received the replacement card, heard that they would also sort it out, maybe a copy of police record, or a call to my bank would have been necessary. But yes, the written rule is"Ticket invalid without accompanying Credit Card." And if you ask for the standard routine, they have to tell you that.

Remember, prostitution is illegal in Thailand, that's the law (rule)!

I check in at LHR with EVA on e-tickets. All I am asked for is "identification" such as a passport which obviously I am carrying to travel abroad.

 

When you say the practise of asking for the credit card is "standard" do you mean to the USA?

 

I am a bit worried now incase the rules in the UK have changed as my ticket is always purchased by my clients and not by me direct.

This silly practice is written in the fine print before you buy E-Tickets by some but not all carriers regardless of where you depart.

The practice of actually asking for the card at check in seems to be spotty. It is not illegal for someone else to purchase a ticket for me with their credit card or for that matter a credit card is not even required to purchase an airline ticket. If I wanted to I could walk into the EVA air office in San Francisco and fork out a bunch of cash and buy one. Then what do they do at check in? Tell me I didn't use a credit card and make me buy one with a credit card?

If they are using the credit card as another form of identification that's ridiculous as we all have passports and if they are concerned about credit card fraud they can leave that work up to the banks.

 

A simple call to your airline and explain the situation that your clients purchased the ticket for you and that should clear it up. I'm sure it's been done before without problems.

Due to the issues raised I contacted EVA who have emailed the following reply

 

"Please be informed that you will be required to present a copy of the

booking confirmation along with all the other travel documents at the

time of check-in. You do not necessarily need to carry the credit card

with you. Therefore, you will not face any problems at the time of check-in. I hope this has clarified your query. However, please do not hesitate to contact me for further assistance".

 

It would appear that (for some reason) this is a USA issue as we dont seem to have it in the UK (can't speak for anywhere else).

 

With regard to the original post - I have flown EVA many times and found them easily the best of the 4 direct carriers from LHR. BA run them pretty close and both are way way better than Thai Air which has gone downhill over the last few years.

 

On a "personal" note - don't you just hate those people who insist on taking (obviously) overweight bags onboard. As far as I'm concerned its just a downright lack of consideration for other passengers regardless of whether it's a safety issue or not. I for one am rather pleased if they are clamping down on this inconsiderate practice and wish other airlines would follow suit.

I have brought tickets on-line with thai and bangkok air both times i have been asked to show my credit card.they do make it clear when you order it that they want to see the card.

 

I often use my CC to buy tickets for a couple of friends with the lowcost airlines here in europe and they have no problem.

 

I have just got a ticket with EVA from amsterdam to bangkok on-line through an agency,for this I got an E-ticket nowhere does it say that i have to show my CC

so we shall see maybe its only when you buy the ticket direct from the airline.

 

but you better make sure the names on your passport and CC match :D :sh
