Quick Condo Question

Hi

 

Found a condo which I intend to book.

 

The agent wants me to fax through a copy of my passport and evidence of plane tickets, in order to confirm booking.

 

Is this normal and reasonable? Any dangers involved?

I don't see any danger in this. Many people simply don't show up, so the agency would like to know how serious the reservation is maybe...

Never been asked for this myself, but I don't see any problems in giving the agents what they want. Hotels/condos etc lose money when people don't turn up and don't let them know that they're going elsewhere.

I would think that a security deposit, via a credit card, would be sufficient to secure the reservation. I'd be hesitant to send them anything else.

Just confirmed with the company concerned, they don't require an advance booking deposit. They stated as it's low season, a copy of passport and evidence of flight is fine.

 

So which is the lesser of two evils?

 

Sending a booking deposit to a stranger?

 

OR

 

Sending a copy of passport and flight details to a stranger?

 

What would you choose?

If they don't require a deposit, then why pay it? I don't see what anyone would car to do any harm with your passport and flight info.
