Hi Guys

I'm going to Pattaya in April and am thinking of having a break in Krabi for a few days during my stay. I can fly Bangkok to Krabi return for approx 2,300 bht (very good price) with Air Asia.

However I'd much prefer to fly from Utapoa to Phuket and then fly onto Krabi from there. The first part is no problem with Bangkok Air, however I can't find a flight from Phuket to Krabi. Searches have returned an Airline called Air Andaman. On trying to open their site, I get a "Page cannot be displayed".

Can anyone advise if this airline is still in operation or has changed name. Or alternatively give the name of another airline.

P.S Any recommendations for accomodation on Krabi, around the 1,500/2,000 BHT mark

I do not know of any flights from Phuket to Krabi.

There is a ferry (both a slow and fast boat service) available and easy to sign up all over town. For about the same price you can negogiate a taxi to drive you - no very exciting but with a nice AC car you are comfortable and seeing some of the countryside. (I do lots of scuba when over there in LOS and more boat rides did not sound exciting - YMMV.

Also I would recommend Ao Nang rather than Krabi town itself. Krabi is a town with out much of a beach or interesting to do. Ao Nang is a beach town with lots more to do - including long tail boat rides to the great cliffand cave beach of Phr Nang. Great for rock climbing if you are into that. Also a night life life - though somewhat tucked away compared to Pattaya (then again what really compares to Pattaya anywhere)

Should be no problem getting places in your price range - but I have not been there in almost 2 years. :D

Cheers thanks

How long does the fast boat take, I believe the slow boat goes via Phi Phi. Or how long would a hired speed boat take. I was thinking of Ao Nang ok, it looks nice on sites I've seen, so you have basically confirmed this for me. The quieter nightlife will be ideal, as it's a chance to recover from Pattaya and recharge the batteries before I return there again for more hardship

i hired a car and travelled all around that area. from what i remeber it took less than two hours from phuket to krabi.

if you do actually stop in krabi and not outside, there is a good hotel called the krabi river hotel around about 800 per night. its only small but really clean and friendly. just about 100 yards away is a night food area, loads of locals and really good food ( very cheap ).

The hotel will organise everything for you (including boat trips and diving).

whilst in phuket i stopped in the siam palm hotel, again very small and friendly, the best showers i have ever used. priced around 700.

both hotels are of a similar standard to dynasty (bangkok) and areca (pattaya).

the drive from phuket to krabi is fantastic, the views are awesome.

I do not remember the exact time (2 or 2.5 hours comes to mind) but I do recall that the fast boat and the car drive were very close to the same time (the ferry being just a bit faster - but the car will pick you up at the door and has a better chance of leaving on time)

Have a good time :clueless

We got a taxi about 2500 baht (after haggling) if i remember rightly. Very comfortable Honda saloon and it took 2 hours from Patong to Ao Nang. Definately worth it.

Only two hours, excellent, from sites I had been reading it looked longer, I was thinking it might be a 5 or 6 hr trip by car from Phuket, Think I will fly Utapoa to Phuket and then get a car down. If there are spectacular views en route, then this will only add to the journey and make it more enjoyable. Thanks guys

You are much better off flying from BKK to Krabi on Air Asia. 2300 baht round trip is a steal! Plus it only takes an additional hour and 15 to drive to BKK instead of Udapao (sp). And you will save time and money flying into Krabi rather than Phuket.

In Krabi you should check out Railay Beach. It can only be reached by longtail, and it supposed to be heaven. Going there myself next month. After much research I would recommend Sunrise Tropical Resort. It gets rave reviews! With Asiarooms.com you can get it for $72 or the deluxe for $92 (which includes outdoor shower, that is supposed to be pretty cool).

Have fun...
