I like TG but this trip flew SQ for a change (still a star alliance airline)

TG leaves NZ at 3.30pm and flies direct to BKK arriving 9.30pm. 10.30pm when daylight savings ends in NZ.

SQ leaves NZ at 1.10am and arr Singapore at 6.30am and there is a connecting flight in about 1.5 hours after arrival so you could be in BKK by 10am. Much better time than the late arrival.

i like the fact that tg has an office in pattaya

never been charged to change ticket

on my birthday they give me perks

this year 50% reduction in number of miles to upgrade

i have 90,000 miles

i will upgrade to business and still have enough for a free economy

How about "I like TG, but it is a little expensive so do not fly it"

Also, it really needs two seperate polls; one for those of us who must cross the Pacific, and on for the Europeans. It is a different set of airlines in the mix, and often with substantially different relative pricing.

Didn't vote cause none of the choices apply for me.

Flew the Thai non-stop from New York last trip. Not nearly as nice as the Sing non-stop but that goes to Spore not Bangkok.

Next trip flying New York (EWR) to Spore to bangkok using Star Alliance miles.

Leaves around 11PM and gets into Bangkok around 11 AM which is great for me.

Prefer leaving on Fri night than taking Thai and leaviong Saturday around noon.

Are you sure its 50% to upgrade and not 50% off the cost in airmiles of a free ticket?

I thought it was 50% off the cost of an upgrade but when I checked it was the cost of a free flight.

ie it is 32,000 instead of 65000 for a free Economy from LHR,MUC,FRA,CDG

What airline is that? I'm getting ready to book a star align. miles flight for Nov.

So far, the best I way to go (paid) that I have found is Thai direct, but according to the website it is 85000 miles to get a freebie on TG. United is only 60,000 with one stop in Tokyo.

I never thought there was a difference crosiing pacific/europe as both sectors are about 12-14 hours. USA/Canada I know is a huge flight.

I upgraded to Gold with ROP last trip and have a free upgrade to bus provided I book a coach seat in V class or higher. No points decrease, just a compliment in attaining Gold status but has to be used within 2 years.

I fly based on who among my favorites offers the best price. The ones I look for are Cathay Pacific, Singapore, and EVA. I would fly Thai but have never seen good prices from them when I wanted to fly.

Didn't vote either as neither option applied.

I used to fly BA for a couple of reasons. First, there are plenty of connecting flights to Heathrow from Edinburgh and secondly as a (former) shareholder I got a 10% discount on the cost of the flights.

Some people hate Heathrow but I quite like it. It's easy to go from Terminl 1 to Terminal 4 and vice versa. I'm close to getting a bonus on my miles (principally, I think from flying 1st class with them last year) but I'll need to make some more enquiries to see how I can take advantage of this from Thailand.

As a relative vet' of over 45+ LHR - BKK return flights, my own opinion is that TG has gone really downwhill over the last four or five years. When I first strated using TG it was very much regarded as a "premier" airline in much the same way as Cathay Pacific and Singapore are regarded now - renowned for great cabin service with a personal touch.

In my opinion that is no longer the case. In the last 4 years I have flown TG 5 times and on each occassion have been disappointed.

I think the service/food is still fine but it just isn't what it used to be.

Interestingly enough I was discussing this with a female TG crew just the other day. Jobs with TG are still highly prized (especially amongst the professional middle-class Thais) but even she was saying that the crew are becoming disillusioned with what they consider to be "cost cutting" measures that undermine their attractiveness. She cited in-particular the aging planes as being an actual "worry" for them from a safety point of view. She also said that they are getting increasingly pissed off (not her words) about the company's constant practice of offering prominent business people and politicians cut price deals in First Class for little apparent reason. Seems like TG is becoming like a lot of other things in "Toxins World".

My conclusion - still OK but now very much superceded by the other direct fliers. Of the 4 direct flyers from LHR-BKK (BA, TG, EVA and Quantas) I would defintely put TG at the bottom of ther list now - 5 years ago they would have been at the top.
