screemingreels,

The difference in price between Qatar's 'accommodation inclusive' and 'flight only' fares in Oct/Nov is only 10 quid per person so you would be locking yourself into what appears to be some pretty basic accommodation for the sake of a tenner.

I would think that a fair proportion of guys on the board have, at one time or another, taken the accommodation inclusive option but most, if not all, have reverted to the flight only and find your own accommodation option. If nothing else, this allows you some degree of independence to change hotels, take side trips away from Pattaya etc.

A couple of things to bear in mind with the inclusive fares are, firstly, you will not accrue any frequent flyer mileage on Qatar with these fares and secondly, your contract will be with the travel agent and not the airline. A small point but it makes all the difference when things go tits up and you are wondering where you stand in relation to compensation, alternative arrangements and insurance implications etc.

Finally, it may be worth holding back for a couple of weeks until Etihad has got its planned Manchester flights loaded into the booking systems. You could be surprised at some of the early deals that are likely to be available.

  • 2 weeks later...

hi. just thought i'd let you know what i did.

purchased a return flight from coop travel for a flight from manchester to bkk via dubai for £600 which included holiday insurance. then arranged my own transfer to pattaya with lostinspace from this board for approx £50 again return journey. then found my own accomadation on line for 3 weeks for approx £44 per week. so all together i sorted myself a 3 week holiday in pattaya for approx £780.00 which is less than a package holiday i booked last year for 11 days.
