Flying in LATE - any problems?

Recommended Posts

I'm flying into Bangkok on April 8th at 11:05pm. I'm just wondering if there's any problems I might encounter with taxis to Pattaya or checking into a hotel real late. I don't have any rooms set up...thought I could walk into a place (Flipper Lodge?) and get hooked up.

Anyone else flying in on United #837 on Apr. 8th?

If I were you I'd just plan on spending a day or so in Bangkok, and THEN go to Pattaya. For example, hop a cab to the lower Sukhumvit for a couple hundred baht. Have a room reserved in one of the hotels near Nana Plaza. You'll be there in time to still have a little fun.

Thats not really a late fly in .... emirates from SYD that arrives at 1am constitutes late. Be that as it may BKK never shuts down from a services point of view just book accordingly in advance.

cheers :)

IMHO, I think arriving at any destination and not having a room set up is a very bad idea.

You'll be arriving in Pattaya around 2am in the morning. You'll be tired after a long flight, or you might be anxious to get out and about.

You walk into a hotel and you find it is full, you could then proceed to spend the next couple of hours trying to find a room.

Why not find a room for you first two nights and then during the day find additional accommodation?

The only bit of advice I can offer is as regards your hotel reservation. Be sure to let them know when to expect you at the hotel. If you're expecting to get to your hotel after midnight, make sure you let them know that when you make your reservation so that they don't think you're a no-show.

That is not late as far as flights go. I have stayed at BKK from 11 until 3:30 am waiting for freind to arrive. Turns out there are like 4 747,s every 15 minutes until something like 3:30 am. between 3:30 and 5 there are only a few flight arriving and then it starts up again.

Getting a taxi to pattaya could be a problem though. Many will not want to go at that time becuase they know it will be hard to get a fare back. And it mean they will not get home until 3 or 4 a.m. Other will be willing to go but want 2500 baht or more. You may or may not be able to get someone willing to go for 800 or 900 baht plus toll. It is easy to make arrangements for a car in advance and you should be able to do it for 1200 -1500 baht.

As far as a room you can always find a room but do you really want to be going from place to place if flipper and the hotels near it happen to be full. Book a room for the first night if you really want to shop around then after you get there for the first night you will have the time to do it.

You will be burn't after the flight. 19 hours and you arrive at 8 a.m in the morning PST. I have flown 837 like 20 times and it is the worst part of the whole trip. It has gotten to the point that right after I get on the plane in SFO I keep thinking "why am I doing this". But of course as soon as I get on the plane going home I start planing my next trip.

My regular flight gets in around 11.00. I prefer to have a cab arranged, although its slower than grabbing a cab on the concourse, cos the car park is so fucked-up.

Have a room arranged for two nights, let them know your arrival time and they'll wait for you. The big hotels...Sunshine, Flipper, Eastiny...will have 24 hour check in anyway, but its comforting to be expected.

Then you step straight out into Soi 7/8 and whoopee.

That's the same flight that I always arrive on. I have a Pattaya based car service waiting for me when I arrive, cost is 1200 plus parking and tolls (200 baht). That time of the year you should have no problem getting a room in Pattaya. The Flipper is small and has a following so you might want to reserve the room or be familiar with the area to have backups in case the Flipper is full.
