Going through the usual ritual of considering broadening my horizons with regard to places to stay for my next trip and came across the Nong Apartments, just off Soi Yensabai. I did a search but it came back with nothing found, so I was wondering if any members had stayed there and had anything to relate; good, bad or indifferent.

Thanks,

Chas,

I've been a bit iffy about the location as well. If they're on the dingy side as well, I'll just go with the Eastiny Residence on Soi 10. I got a decent rate for a deluxe room and the word is that they've got wired hi-speed Internet in the room, so I see no reason to make more of an ordeal out of it than that. I've had good luck several times at Eastiny Place on Soi 8, so why mess with a winning streak?

Thanks for the feedback.

I just felt the street did not have much to offer. It ended in some open land - there are probably half a dozen condos on there now! The apartments had a gated highwall round whith a courtyard inside, a bit closed in for me.

But everyone has their own view.

Phantom:

I must admit that it's not an area I know in any depth. I've been through there a few times and certainly know it on a map. It's proximity to Walking Street is one of the major positives that had me considering a stay in the first place. I truly have no idea if it's a particularly bad neighborhood or not -- it just never has had much "energy" to it compared to other parts of town. Sort of one of those neighborhoods that you feel like could be an iffy area with very little effort.

I liked the Internet in the rooms, the size of the apartments and, of course, the prices, but I don't know. Maybe I'll wait and see if I get more feedback.

Thanks,

I spent last JULY at Noong apartment. I enjoyed my stay and might consider a repeat. Very good location if you want to be within walking distance of Walking Street. I agree that from first sight the area might seem somewhat dicey. Too Middle Eastern for my taste, but I never encountered any problems. With electric I spent about 20,000 Baht for the month. I had 2 rooms with only the bedroom air-con. The mattress was somewhat hard, but the staff kept the room immaculate. Very quiet at night. with the guard taking quests ID. My only problem was that miserable dog kept as a pet. It hated me from the first, but left other guests un molested. It never bit me (all bark but no bite) However, I never harmed an animal in my life and did not have the ability to take the necessary steps with that mutt.If you stay there give that bastard a kick just for me.

I stayed at the Yensabai Condo around the corner and the neighborhood is just fine including late at night. There are a few gay bars around but I've never seen a guy pulled into the bars. They will say hello and invite you in but a POLITE no thank you works real well.
