I normally head straight to Pattaya but on my upcoming trip i have to spend a couple of days in bangkok on non mongering business. Plan to stay in The Sofitel in central plaza. As i may get a bit of free time does anyone know if this hotel is guest friendly and / or close to any action

IMHO, that location is horrible. Its at the very end of the BTS line by Chatachuk.

I would rather stay close to the Asok or Nana BTS station or somewhere centralized near Patpong. The problem with the BTS is they close around midnight which if you're way down Sukhmvit that means a taxi back for you. However the traffic is really mild by the time the BTS closes. I'm not positive but it's probably not GF, usually high profile hotels stray away from making their establishment's GF.

No problem... everybody says the 5 stars don't like mongers but it's just a case of customer is always right. You will be paying top dollar so are they gonna send you away? I stay at the Conrad when i'm working in BKK and i'm always taking bar girls back at lunch or night time or whenever, they never say a word to me even when i take them to the pool or into the exec lounge for breakfast!

They have plenty of hookers working the bars there anyway, just that it's gonna cost you a lot more to take a girl from there.

Probably best to be discrete and not come back rolling drunk though

Don't know about the location but if you are anywhere near the BTS it's just 50 baht or so to get back late night so i wouldn't worry about it.

I don't agree. For one thing, Conrad and Sofitel are in two absolutely different leagues in class and cost. 2nd, yes the do tend to lean to charge joiner fees at most like i said most higher establishments. Of course not all. See the part that says usually? :allright however that is up to the original poster to decide.

The Conrad, Marriot, Sheraton, Westin, Landmark, Majestic Grande etc don't charge joiner fees. It would be interesting to know which high-end hotels do charge.

I always book a double at the Sheraton and Westin when I'm in BKK. Never had a question on bringing a BG back to the loom. Same with the Marriott in Pattaya. BTW Marriott is spelled with two t not one.

I have stayed at the sofitel several times. The quality of the rooms and the services is very comparable to both the westin grande , and the sheraton grande(i have stayed at both those hotels as well). The sofetil has better exercise room and a nice pool than either the others. The sofitel also includes an outstanding buffet breakfast. With eggs cooked to order, fresh salmon and crab, english biscuits etc etc.

When I stayed at the westin and the sheraton it was on priceline and I paid 3500 baht and it didn't inlcude breakfast. I got the sofitel from a travel agent and paid around 2600 baht inlcuding the breakfast.

As far as Girl friendly. It is my understanding that they are not. My first time there they did not say anything to me when I brought a girl in. the 2nd and 3rd times I was at Sofitel I had a girl with me who I checked in with me. In both those cases there wasn't a problem. But I have heard of others saying the security stopped them and told them "no unregistered guests." The last time I was there was 2004 so it has been awhile. :clueless

I stayed at the Sofitel in Silom road, I booked it through a travel agent in UK and got it for UKP 40 per night, as far as being girl friendly goes, I was told beforehand to book a double, it is the same price and they will not question any guest comming or going.

Also the breakfast buffet is superb.
