Tourist Visa Extension

Recommended Posts

I am in possesion of a double entry tourist visa, I am just about to complete my first 60 day stay.

If I go off to the Immigration dept in Jomtiem and hand over 1900 baht to extend current stay, can I get 30 more days or 15? I have seen conflicting answers.

Hardly worth 1900 for 15 days......but to postpone my Cambodia visa run for a month at that price would suit me fine at a busy time.....I will do the visa run next month.

Same same as Bill Russell (30 days) except that I went to Nong Kai Immigration Office for my visa extension.

You’ll need 2 copies of the extension paperwork (similar to your original visa request) and passport photos as well.

In my case it would have been quicker and easier and cost me about the same to go to Laos instead.

The law states that the period of extention is at the discretion of the immigration officer but in any case not more than 50% of the time allowed by the existing visa.

In Pattaya this has translated to 30 days if you have a proper tourist visa in your passport or 7 days if you got a visa on arrival.

However as it is a discretionary matter the only way to be sure it to pay your money and take your chance.

Thanks guys.....feedback is I got 30 days extension, and I was surprised to see that it was 30 days from when my 1st entry was due to expire, rather than 30 days from date of application.

It was pretty easy in Jontiem, but not immediate. Filled in form, 1 photo, 1 copy of important passport pages. At 10.30 I went to desk to have paperwork checked, sent to next desk to pay 1900 baht. Given a number and told to return at 2pm.Did so, it was all ready to go.

It is a complete rubber stamp job. It used to be Bt500 but when they twigged on that people were paying Bt2000 to go to the border, they came up with the majic Bt1900 figure.

You can ask beforehand for how many days you want. Usually 30 on a 60 or 90 day visa but you can get more and 10-15 on an entry stamp. If you are a few over this "limit" just ask them. They want your cash and don't want you to go to the border. They couldn't give a fuck really.

I don't think that you can compare the two - If you do a border run, you get twice the length of stay.

Why can't you compare the two? :chogdee2

I think it is mainly a money making thing, but you have to admit it is vastly improved service than soi 8 used to be.....and at nearly 4 times the price it should be!

Next entry for me will be a border run, not my idea of fun in the hot season.
