As the previous poster 200 only! Its more if you come from an E.U. country though! Saying that i always bring back 4 or 5 packs, to sell! If you get pulled, they can take them off you at customs!,but! my wife was once pulled, she had 1200! and they didnt say anything! they were more interested in the thai food she brought back!

Sorry i ment 12,000. thats 60 packs of 200. He told me he just stuffed them in a ruck sack and walked stright through. Every time i go through manchester i allways get xrayed. What happens if you get cought with excess fags?

With 12,000 cigarettes, I suspect you would be detained and taken to court the following morning to explain your actions.

A hefty fine and confiscation of the cigarettes would be the likeliest result unless it was a 2nd offence.

Just an aside from this topic.

If you have a stop over for a few hours at say Amsterdam ie within the euro zone, can you buy duty free up to the normal eurozone allowance.

He's suggesting you dont put your true Thailand address on box(es) as is the normal requirement when shipping goods out of Thailand.

How much ARE bensons when bought outside of Duty Free at airport ??

  • 2 weeks later...

If you get caught they are all taken off you no further action is taken. If you keep getting caught eventually they would procecute I suppose. You certainly do not have to pay the duty as the yank suggested.

Bensons are around 10 pounds but are not the same quality as the ones at home or from duty free and do not sell very well, unless you sell them cheaply.

Bigjon what size parcels do you send ie. how many in each one and do you send them all to the same address in the uk. I need to try posting as I keep getting caught carrying them in to the UK. :bhappy I cannot afford to get caught anymore.

I would not reccommend carrying 12000 through Manchester Airport it is not a busy airport and the customs have time to target flights eg. the Emirates ones. They are like a dog with bone. I would reccommend coming through London if you want to do it.

i would have said manchester would be a safer bet than the london airports.but its a game of chance.

If your heading back to the UK try to fly through an EU airport on the way back...........i go via Amsterdam and take the KLM city hopper up to Teeside.

The customs look as to where the flight originates so you have a better chance of there being no one on duty .

Regal are the best sellers just over 5 pound a carton at DM you can get 25 cartons in your personal bag with nothing else in it (buy the bag to suit the cartons).

Bensons as someone has already posted are hard work............i normally take 10 cartons cost 10 pound a carton in Patters.................also ive found London are saleable and only cost a fiver a carton............normally take 15 of them as well.

Manchester is only probably worth the chance if you are transitting via Heathrow and arriving in Manchester at Terminal 3 (particulary on a Saturday or Sunday evening). Arriving at Terminal 1 or 2 means you have too much chance getting caught up with arrivals from the Caribbean, Middle East and Indian sub-continent.

a friend of mine earlier this year came back from tenerife to the uk, tenerife is the same 200 allowance and he brought 6000, although we warned him.

they confiscated every single cigarette and took details of his passport and made him sign a form which stated that if he was caught with above his allowance again he would

be charged and jailed as a tobacco smuggler,

frightened him to death

With reference to the post re seizure and jail, here in Bristol last week a gentleman received a two month sentance for breaching duty free limits with just 7 cartons of Bensons.

He had been warned once verbally previously and also had details passport taken on another subsequent occasion.

In coming from Abu Dhabi.

Suggest you read all of the post numnut !!

He didnt get two months for 7 cartons.

He got 2 months after being verbally warned with no further action if not repeated,he then repeated it (with amount of fags unknown) and was given a written/final warning,he then repeated it again and so got two months.

He would have got 2 months no doubt if he had 400 fags rather than 1400.

He was over the limit - period.

I'll see if I can pull a link to it for you.
