Eva international/Thai domestic ?

Recommended Posts

Just planning a quick trip, possibly to Chiang Mai.

Would I be able to through ticket my luggage LHR- Chiang Mai if arriving Bangkok on Eva and departing on Thai Airways domestic?

I know when I flew in the reverse direction last year the Thai Air CSA at Chiang Mai made me check in domestic. She said I could not send my bags direct via Eva to LHR.

This was a pain, waiting for my bag at BKK domestic and then taking the long hike to International depatures.

I think I know what the answer to my query is gonna be as Thai don't seem to like Eva. Mai bpen Rai :llaugh

Used to regularly do this ( EVA and then Thai to Chiang Rai), and always had to clear/collect baggage etc at Bangkok. However last time was nearly 2 years ago, so things may have changed, but I doubt it.

I don't think the 2 airlines have any baggage handling agreements, therefore no luck for you on this. :cry1

You would most likel;y have to collect your bags on arrival in country anyway in case customs wanted to check your bags. This is almost always at the port of arrival which in this case is BKK. Most countries in the world operate this way. Customs is not available at most domestic terminals only internationals. :cry1

This thread seems to be a good place to ask my question. Arriving on EVA at BKK, I need to go to Thai Airways for my flight to Chiang Mai. I have about 5 hrs between flights and I have the tickets ( meeting a 'friend' ). After clearing customs - shoud I go upstairs and walk to the domestic terminal ? assumming the old airport will be in use at the end of Oct.

Don't remember, when taking a taxi, if the International Terminal was before or after the other Terminal (departures).

Any (reasonable) suggestions ?

There should be a shuttle bus between International and Domestic Airport. Do a Google search. Alternatively, get a taxi to take you over there. It's too far to walk.

Buy your ticket to Chiang Mai at the Air Asia or Nokair ticket counters at the domestic airport or book an e-ticket online. They have several flights per day. Thai Air and Bangkok Air will cost you about three times as much.

Sorry, I just noticed you already bought your tickets with Thai Air. :beer

It looks like the new airport will open in late September, I know TIT but it looks on this time.

I have to make my mind up before 15th August, but I may go to Pattaya instead of CM. :clap2

It just looks like end of September/ early October Rainy season Pattaya.
