Hi All,

Will have nearly an eight hour layover in Dubai, flying with emirates onward to BKK. I have read somewhere that economy passengers with emirates can get lounge access if the lay-over is more than four hours in Dubai. Can anyone verify/elaborate on this ???

Much obliged :D

Not sure about that one. I do know that you can leave the airport.

Dubai is a very western city with plenty of hotels, that serve adult beverages. You can even purchase some companionship but be forewarned its going to cost you

There is also a HUGE duty free store in the airport

I had a 9 hour lay over at Dubai about 4 years ago and wasnt given access to the lounges even though i did try. Having said that things may have changed since then.

If you can't be bothered heading into town there is a hotel located in the International transit area so you don't even have to clear immigration. If I remember correctly its on the top floor. You could get a room there for 4 or 6 hours as well as the normal overnight rate so it might save you a bit of money.

As far as I know only Biz class passengers are allowed in the biz lounge and 1st class pax in the 1st class lounge, if they let anyone with a long stop over in, it would be packed. The biz class one in the mornings is pretty busy anyhow.

However, it is well worth paying a little extra for that beer or spirit and sit inside the proper bar in the airport, has really nice relaxing seats with cable TV, newspapers and you can smoke. Other bars and cafe's in the central area, you can't smoke and thdey are usually busy.

I have done 8hr stops at dubai before and it aint such a big deal.

!st up ,go to one of the info desks at the top of the escalator and ask which gate your connecting flight is at ( the display boards are terrible as there are so many flights and the flight is nearly taking off by the time it comes up.

Then halfway along the upstairs section is a "sleeper lounge" which has reclined ,fixed ,leather type chairs. They keep this area quiet (well quieter).

TIP: remember to grab your emirates blanket off your previous flight, so u can get cosy!!!!!!!

Hi northsink I regularly travel emirates but usually manage to get short stop overs in Dubia. As a frequent flyer I have access to the business lounges and can confirm that I have seen people in a similar position to yourself being refused entry to the lounges as the are for memebers only.

However if you follow this linkEmirates

I believe that you can turn up and pay approximately £12 and you can gain access to this lounge.

I have never used it so don't know what it is like but based on the fact that it is £10 for 2 pints in the airport bar even if you just get comfy surroundings and soft drinks it is probably still worth it.

:beer :gulp

Yep, alcoholic beverages are available, but the price of the stuff is scary :D

I had 3 hour connections on my last trip to Thailand, so I didn't get too bored, and only had time for a couple of drinks, and at their prices I was glad it was only a short connection!
