Sorry to hear of the theft, Gary. You probably have other ideas that you can market differently next time.

Autocad. That's probably a skill people would pay for if you felt like it. You might not, retired.

Or you could teach some local kids how to use it and send them off into the world to make a life better for themselves than they ever would have had otherwise.

Very interesting indeed, the are signs at the airport that you ain't allowed to take out more than 50.000 (not sure) out of the country, but if you exchange it into another currency before leaving ?

And if you have your money in a Thai account you can use your ATM-card to make withdrawals outside Thailand, the fees can be quite hight though, I paid 100 BT, but I think the local bank charged the greatest part of that amount. :bs :D

I did not mean like that, all my cash is safely tucked away in a offshore bank account in the Isle of Man.

You also can take cash out providing you can prove you bought it into the country in the first place.

Cannot remember the name of the document you need but I think it is a tor tor 3 or something like that. I only have 500000 baht in Thailand and when that is gone I may well bugger of somewhere else for a little while to check stuff out. Or I night just stay here....................who knows.

Just gotta work, eh?

That simply baffles me. I suppose it makes a difference what kinda job you had in the past and if it sucked ass or not. I would never step foot in an operating room again for the rest of my life, if I could escape from it today. Nossir, I would not have a prob retiring tomorrow forever.

I do understand you getting fed up with the Thai attitude towards farangs, though. I wonder why they hate us so much? Petty human jealousy, I reckon. Even so, the constant undercurrent of ant-farang attitude would likely get under my skin sooner or later, too.

Went to Saigon (Ho Chi Min) early January on a visa run... What an hectic City, think traffic is bad here or in Bangkok! Wait till you see them streets!

I stayed for 5 days, the place is a bit daunting so i hired a tour guide / come motorbike taxi driver to show me round, day and night, worked out cheap and he knew all the best spots, Girl Bars, Discos, nightclubs etc! The girls are fantastic, but very few speak a word of english! You can pull just about any girl you want there from the cleaners to the nightclub show girls!

Theres not so many tourists especially off the beaten track, although, id have felt a little bit nervous if the tour guide wasnt with me...

Anyway, well worth a visit, especially if you need to do a visa run.. People are friendly enough, Girls are stunning (and cheap) some good site seeing aswell, alot of war museums, and the tunnel complex well worth a visit.

BUT! ALL IN ALL... THAILAND STILL NUMBER 1

3-5 million baht at 5% in the bank will earn 250,000 baht interest per year. That's about 21,000 baht per month.

Should be able to rent a nice condo for that, with maid service, and not dip into savings at all. If off the beaten path, might be able to find an even lower rent? If so, then the 5 million baht will grow while you're living there -- just like owning. Shrug.

Yes but it will keep giving you 21,000 baht, who knows what the rent will be in 10 or 20 years time? Maybe 42,000 baht, what will you be then? F'ed?

After I bought this condo a large amount of time went by before either I or anybody else was able to get a house book and clear title through the land office. Well.....that has now been finalized. One of the last steps through this process was that each and every one of us had to provide proof through our bank that the funds we used to buy our condos did in fact come from our home countries and not Thailand. When I first bought my condo, the developer recommended that we wire money directly into the developing company's account. I said I'd prefer to wire money from my U.S. bank account directly into a Thai bank account with the Commercial Bank of Siam. Helmut representing the developing company shrugged and said he had no problem with that.

Several months ago, Helmut told me my title and house book would soon be finalized through the land office. At the time he was going to the land office on an almost daily basis working through the paperwork for all the condo owners, and he told me I needed to get a statement from the bank that would clearly show the wire transfers as having originated from a U.S. bank. Then he said: "Otherwise we cannot make transfer (of the property).

But I couldn't go to just any of Commercial Bank of Siam's branches. I had to go to the one where I originally had set up my account. So I took my bank savings passbook there and asked for transcripts that showed the paper trail of monies going from my U.S. account to my Bank of Siam account. Within minutes I had the statements I needed and these showed the actual transfers from my bank account to a larger bank in the U.S. and from there to the Bank of Siam.

And that was that. Other condo owners got the necessary statements sent over from their banks in their home countries. When I asked Helmut about whether or not Thai banks such as Commercial Bank of Siam would have the required paperwork showing wire transfers from foreign accounts to its Western customers accounts, he said they certainly would since it was Thai law that they have them so that their foreign depositors buying condos could take their money back out of Thailand should they ever want to sell their condos and leave the country.

Have travelled Vietnam from Hanoi down to Saigon recently.

The big cities are way too hectic to enjoy.

Some very nice resorts in Nha Trang and even better in Mui Ne, very good climate...

Food is pretty good and cheap.

But did not find any seviced Apt. there.

People are not that friendly like in Thailand, sometimes pretty pushy regarding tips...

Do not forget the communist heritage, shown everywhere.... not everybody's taste...

ALTOGETHER THAILAND NUMBER 1
