Reading all the posts about golf in different parts of Thailand such as Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin and Phukett has peaked my interest in settling in a good golf area. For you experienced guys what area do you think is the best for a golf bum like myself.

I think Doggie could answer this better, but after travelling to 5-6 areas and playing golf in all (Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai, Kanchanaburi, Bangkok, Rayong, and Pattaya that I can think of) I would think the Pattaya area would have the highest concentration of courses. Or maybe the Sri Racha/Laem Chabang area, where you would also be in striking distance of some of the Bangkok courses.

I liked the Chiang Rai area for other reasons, but only a few courses (although one of them, Santiburi, is a great course).

I've heard good things about Hua Hin, but haven't been there yet.

I echo Hub's advice. Pattaya has the most golf courses and the green fees are more competitive than other areas. You also have a big expat community here so plenty of competitions and golf groups you can join in with for a day out.

I'd reiterate the above comments. Whilst I love the courses around Chiang Mai there are not that many.

At the moment Pattaya is more competitive and therefore cheaper.

It also depends on the type of golf you want to play - there are so many bars in Pattaya you have so much choice on which course to play in any week.

If you just want to join a course and play there every week (as we do in England) then the choice is down to which course you want to join and that answers the question for you, whereas if you want to play different couses I don't think anywhere else has the number of bars offering days out as Pattaya does.

Thanks for the great advice. Pattaya sure seems like a winner. Sorry about my bad vocab, I've just always used "peaked" instead of "piqued". It's the American in me.
