UAL August Fares Going Down

Recommended Posts

Finally, UAL's fares to BKK have started going down. For july, the average economy price was around $1,400. August fares are between $1,050 and $1,150. It's sure to go down as summer winds down.

Hopefully ( but doubtful) this trend will continue.

But it's beyond me why someone would pay $1000 bucks or over from the USA to Thailand when it can be had for around $800 bucks with EVA or China airlines.

Emil can explain it better than I can  , but some of the programs (such as United) are very lucrative if you use them often enough. If you are Premier Executive in their program with double miles it boils down to buy two get one free. Even if you're paying $1,000 each for two trips (I don't think he pays that much through his travel agent) the third free flight brings the average cost down considerably.

Back when he was flying over six times a year he was paying for 4 flights and flying six times and he was getting the average price right down there.

The west coasters get those good deals, but those of us 3 time zones away never will.

How about free upgrades? That's worth an extra $200 to me.

As a Premier Executive with UA, I received a free upgrade to business from NRT to SFO last month. I always get exit row seat. :allright

I almost always us China Airlines to BKK, but do use UAL domestically. Unfortunately, UAL is no where near competitive in price or schedule from Honolulu to Bangkok (a shame). This was posted on an EVA thread the other day, but just wanted to run it by those of you that use UAL alot.

I started using beta flight tracker software from Yapta.com a few weeks ago. Anyway they promise to let you know when flights you want to take come down in price.

Finally, the point is that it can be cheaper to book flights as multicity one way fares and was able to book a domestic flight through UAL's website and save over $300 RT by doing this.

The cheapest roundtrip fare from Honolulu to Bangkok on 9/9 to 9/25 was $2168. When this was priced as a multicity one way fare, the exact same itinerary came out to $1378 ($790 less). Instead of entering HNL to BKK, had to enter HNL-NRT, NRT-BKK, BKK-NRT, NRT-HNL as airport codes.

Anybody doing this and seeing better prices?

Central Air Booking, a travel agency in Bkk lists r/t airfare to Honolulu for 15200 baht plus tax, no sure what the total would be with tax, hope this helps...

here is thier site (I have not used them before): CAB

Only reason I can think of is that I don't live near a gateway city. It cost just to get to Los Angeles or San Francisco or New York.

I thought 1200$ was okay from a small town in the middle of southeast USA. $400 of the cost would be from here to a gateway city, then $800 from there to BKK and back.

There are great fares to be had if you live near a real airport but for a lot of us in the hinterland they are out of reach.

If you were using system-wide upgrades, would you get screwed booking this way (having to use four instead of two)?

Their site says 15,200 one way and 25,200 RT plus tax and fuel surcharges, so not sure what it would be, but thanks.

I just booked a flight to the mainland this way with UAL (a series of one ways) and used the standard miles to upgrade (15K) to my final destination and 15K miles back, so it was not a problem. As usual, you just have to make sure that they have unallocated seats for upgrades.

Just wanted to see if BM's had tried to book using a series of one way fares with UAL and if it was less expensive to do it this way.
