Info on why there are not always flights

United air currently has a petition going to add a LAX to Shanghai (PVG). I have posted in other thread about the problems that airlines have adding routes. China has decided to allow another flight to shanghai from the USA. There is several american airlines bidding to put a flight to shanghai but it would be from other cities. United already has several flights to shanghai and it would make a perfect city to use as a connection to bangkok. If United can get this LAX- PVG route and one other then they will try to get a PVG-BKK connection if they think there is sufficient demand. The idea would be that passengers flying from SFO LAX IAD ORD would be able to continue on to BKK.
